Many of you have loads of experience of Continental touring as well as UK holidays. So, would you care to offer your tips to motorhome newbies, right here on the Practical Motorhome forum?

How do you save money on your motorhome tours? Do you cook a few meals and take them frozen to save cash and time when you go abroad?

When is it best to use French motorways (despite the tolls) and when should you avoid them?

Let's compare notes!

Practical Motorhome's Sarah Wakely shares her money-saving tips for motorhome tours to get the topic started.

Many thanks in anticipation.

We seldom use toll roads , as we have the time to meander along. If you are restricted to say 2/3 weeks then by al means use them to get south quickly.
We normally go to Spain , and get there in 3 days from Cherbourg, without using toll roads. Depends how many miles you feel comfortable driving , but the beauty of a MH you can always change your mind and stop anywhere. We never book sites, so do not have deadlines to meet
As for ferry costs, if you travel more than once a year, then worth joining BF club, and get 30% discount, or 10% if using as a friend of some-one with membership

We take some food , so that we can have a meal if needed, but local food in Spain is cheap, not so in France now!
Take cereals if thats what you like , and a few packets cans, If you must have , say marmite/baked beans, etc, take some with you, as most "English" brands can be far more expensive

Hope this helps for starters

Thank you Chirene, your motorhome holidays sound brilliant. As you say, there's no need to plan ahead too much, and you can stop anywhere.
