How much should I insure my caravan for, we purchased a new Elddis avante 524 last February and insured it for what was then the list price on a new for old basis, we have just received our renewal notice but the sum insured is the same as last year, Elddis have now replaced the old model with the new avante club with a list price of 12795, when I contacted my insurance company to amend this they insist I can't insure it for this price. On ringing around a few other insurance company's they all agree that this is the price I should insure it for as that would be the replacement should the worst happen. What do you think?

Insurers can't seem to agree on this point. We had a similar dilemma when insuring our new caravan in October last year as it was new but last year's model with lots of extras. We got the van for a discounted price so we wanted to insure for the higher replacement cost. Most said we could only insure for the price paid. Hi Jasper

This subject has been done to death ove rthe years in all the mags.

I suggest you have a word with the Caravan Club Insurance dept. We have a new for old , up to 10 years I believe, BUT , the sum insured must keep track with inflation, price increases etc.

Whilst CC insurance was not the cheapest it has consistantly been voted to have the best cover.

Cheers

Alan

Many thanks for those who have replied, we have now taken insurance out with a different company, every company we spoke to said the same that the sum insured had to reflect the replacement value of our van and that the revamped avante club would be the natural replacement so the list price of that van should be used, everyone that is except our previous insurer.
