I purchased a Bailey Ranger ser 5 460/4 2008 because its width was 7ft 2 inch. Some of the roads down here in the south the council are making the width of the roads smaller and are putting these jutting out bits every where?

Also if you are like us we like to tour devon cornwall so 7ft

6 inch is out.Come on Bailey dont go that way please.

PS the 460/4 its just GREAT.

Well Del

Lets hope you do not meet the same tractor driver I did at Lamorna cove. He made me reverse back just under a mile up a hill with just 1" on both sides of the van to he main road because he did not think he should reverse up 16ft to let me into the feild where we were going to stay.

I agree, I don't want all Bailey's to go 7ft6 wide either!

We are on Bailey number 5, a recently purchased Pageant Series 6. I am so glad w got the Series 6 as the Series 7 would be too wide for our drive.

BTW we had a Ranger 460/4 prior to the Pageant. Nice van just couldn't get on with the fixed bed!

Its the council down here width restrictions every where all the traders are up in arms about it. All the bus lay-bys have been filled in so now the Bus pulls up and traffic backs up or miles.

I always avoid town centres when towing the van as they are rarely caravan friendly.

But what i am confused about here is if the councils are installing 7ft 2 width restrictions , then it is pointless filling in the bus laybys as most buses are 8ft wide with the exception of several minibuses, several Dart Pointers are under 8ft wide.

With regards to narrow minor roads, again I always avoid these except where unavoidable.

I agree that there are sites that are not suitable for wide / long outfits due to acess road restrictions, but to say that Devon and Cornwall are out for 7ft 6in vans is a bit drastic. personally wouldnt go back to anything other than 7ft 6in wide and 26 min body length van and we tour the UK from Penzance to Dunnet and Cape Wrath and from Norfolk to cardigan bay and with advanced planning have yet to have a problem.

I can understand people wanting 7ft 2inch vans when they have limited storage space for the van. However having toured the Scottish Highlands and the South West regularly with a 7ft 6inch van I don't think the argument stands up regarding access issues to sites and on smaller roads.

Hi all

I am not saying no 7ft 6inch vans. All a am saying is I like 7ft 2inch and would like to have the choice. I think every body should have the choice from layouts to leghths to widths.

If, as seems to be the case, the overwhelming majority want to tow a 7' or wider caravan, that's what the manufacturer's will produce. We have no need, or wish, to tow anything wider than the car - it's a caravan, not a mobile home.

If the new VED rates and high fuel costs create more demand for smaller/lighter caravans there will an incentive for manufacturers to produce some sensibly sized ones.

My gateway at home is only 7'6" too. Currently we have an Eriba, which is 6'6" wide, but they are expensive and it would be good to have some competition and choice. Even 7'2" is wider than I want or need.
