Help needed please. For the third time, we have just come home with the'van to find that the rear indicator on the 'van has stopped working again. The relay has blown again for the nearside. This occurs and the tel-tell still works as if the flasher is working! Anyone give me a clue where to start looking for the fault please, car or 'van.

That sounds like a trapped wire. Can you pinpoint it down to either left or right turn that causes the fault.
The other thing to do is trace the wires back from the relay inside the car to the lighting socket to check for pinched wires.
You could borrow or buy (£15) a trailer lighting board to eliminate a fault in the caravan.
If you still get the fault, you will need to trace back the caravan wiring from the plug to the light clusters at the back.
My money is on the wiring from the indicator relay to the car socket. The 7 core cable or 13 core, is fed usually around the spare wheel well and behind the plastic trim panels of the boot. Also some fitters dril a hole through the boot floor and "forget" to fit a gromet. This results in the wire chaffing and eventually shorting out.

Hope this helps.

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. Its always the right hand (N/S) caravan indicator that stops working. As said earlier, this is the 3rd time now inside two years. I didnt have any problems with electrics before, and I take it back to the same people that originally fitted the bar. They simply replace the relay, properly i may add, all works well for several trips out with the van. then the blessed thing pops again. I replaced the socket the first time, now I'll replace the plug. It is pretty grotty inside, but looks functional. I'll also take a good look at the cable from the relay to the socket. Old ground, but you never know, thanks, Terry.
