Indicator problem

I tow with a Mondeo 2.2 TDCi estate. On the last trip the bleeper confirming the caravan indicators are working went silent for the off-side indicator (but worked for the near-side). Having pulled over, I confirmed that the indicator was working, although the bleeper remained silent. When I arrived home I checked it with a separate trailer board lighting set - same result - thus the problem is with the 'car-end' of the 12N connector (or in the car). I cleaned the pin in the 12N for the O/S indicator. The bleeper now works for about 15 seconds after the indicator is switched on, but then goes silent. it still works Ok for the N/S indicator.

Any ideas from electrical experts before I give up and take to to a local towbar fitter?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hello Paul,

There are various different ways that cars detect the trailer, and as you have established the fault is on the car rather than the trailer, it is difficult to give precise instructions.

Unless you are certain about what you are doing, I recommend you refer the work to a tow bar specialist.

I had the same prob with my crv i took it to the garage which fitted the towbar and it was the small circuit connection that makes the bleeper work in the car, it cost me
