Hi
Can you please tell me if you can stop the 9 second indicator flashing on a Autotrail Cheyenne/ Fiat chassis.This problem can be annoying at night and dangerous when using the headlamps/ main/dip beam,

Hi AML, welcome.
I've not heard of this before. Do you mean they keep flashing every 9 seconds all the time, without being switched on, or that they flash that slowly when you operate them?

Thank you for your reply,sorry if I have not explained the problem correctly.
When the head lights are on and you change from full beam to dip,ithe indicators will flash for 9seconds and could be left or right depending how you have used the dip. I understand that this might be normal as it will flash if you accidentally catch the indicator switch by accident either way.I am sure this must be annoying to other road users as they don't know what you may do.

Got the idea now Gordon.
Mine's a Ford, but the same lever operates the dip (towards you and let it spring back) and flashers (up R, down L).
My flashers can also do a short "three flash" function by moving the lever without going all the way to the "click" point - useful when changing lanes on the motorway. Is that the "9-second" thing you mention?
If so, it sounds as if the lever on yours isn't very positive.
Can any other Fiat owners (plenty of them on here) tell us whether this is a normal "characteristic" (Fiat's favourite word in another context!) or a fault which can and should be fixed?

I'm obliged to Stephen Prior, Ray Cripps, and Robert Cole of the MH & Campers UK Facebook group for responding. From their information, it seems that:
1) the "indicate lane-change" IS standard on the Ducato, much as I described it on my Ford.
2) again like the Ford, the same stalk operates both the flashers and main/dip selection.
3) there's a control panel to the right of the steering column, above the footwell, which MAY (not sure) allow you to change the number of flashes for the lane-change function.
All of which still leaves us with a question: does your particular vehicle have an unusually floppy lever (which needs fixing), or do you just need a slightly different technique, to avoid accidentally operating the lane-change signal when you dip or "undip" the headlights?

My Fiat X250 does this as well, does anyone know if it can be switched off ? I find it very annoying, when I manually cancel after say a Right hand turn, it then does several flashes on the left, so thinking I hit it too hard I cancel that, then it does a few Right hand flashes etc. etc I end up going down the road Flashing like an idiot
(the air then turns Blue) as I curse mr Fiat and all of his Children. I find it almost as annoying as 'Predictive text'
If I need Electronic Help, I will ASK for it, until then, please allow me to do things myself. I swear less if you do.
So ? can I switch it off ? Ray

I'm with you Ray. Machines should do what we tell them to. I get very grumpy when they take it upon themselves to decide what I want /need /think!

Especially for you Tony. I was reminded of this from my distant (IT) past on another forum last week :lol:

Evidently from a label on all early IBM mainframes shipped to Germany. Those naughty Americans.

I too have an IT hardware background, when on a Training Course in Frankfurt, working with All German colleagues, who had to speak English, because I was on the course !! All the training manuals were in English/Japanese..ish. One Colleague picked up an 'Ajustable Wrench/spanner' and Smirked ' we call zeese tools 'englishman', because they never know which size to use, ha ha. I said ' thats funny because it says on it here 'Made in Germany'. ha ha. we got on OK after that, just don't mention the war.

Ah, but training courses are another matter Ray - any resemblance to the real world is purely co-incidental! :)

(I speak as one who's done training courses with the former Midland Bank, a couple of other companies, and the Civil Service - long before training for the Baptist ministry!)

Thank you for the memories gentlemen - and glad they are now just memories :lol:

I don't recall manuals being written in Japanese but did have to program some look-alike terminals in Japanese in the mid 1970s. That was an interesting way of telling machines what to do :lol:

No, they weren't written in Japanese, but a bad english translation of Japanese, almost as bad.
In the late 60's and early 70's the japanese were still copying American and British Electronic's, but 'Smoothing out the wrinkles' and gradually bringing out 'Improved,rebadged' versions of our own products, (as they did with motorcycles) but they very quickly 'took the lead', and the rest is history. We were their 'beta test bed'.
I worked for the Americans,The Japanese and the Germans, the terms and conditions were far better under the Germans especially Pensions. Ah well back to the Vacuuming.
