Hi All. Can anyone tell me if the furniture in a caravan gives any structural support to the design or strength of a caravan, I was thinking of stripping out and refitting the interior to personalize to our taste and to modernize it. Ive noticed for example that the wardrobe is secured to the floor and the ceiling, does this design give any support to the roof void. The cupboards at the back of the van run from one side to the other, does this help with the strength or can i happily strip out n start again. Cheers

The internal structures do tend to brace the outer walls, so if you were to strip it out you would need to replace them with structures that add the same degree integrity .
To add to John's reply, if you completely revamp the interior, you must also make sure that the weight distribution of the new layout is also compatible. Otherwise, you may find that the necessary noseweight is difficult to achieve or that there is a big difference between the load on each wheel, left to right. Large differences in the latter result in instability of the outfit.
Also all the fittings and furniture is fixed to reenforcing timbers built into the sandwich construction. If you move it, you will be trying to fix it to 2.5mm ply.
