A word of caution (may not be true) I was told a couple of years ago by a French policeman that the number plate GB notification was not recognised in France and that strictly speaking only the white oval with black GB was approved. Might be interesting if PC could comment

In the past I have been amazed at the number of British cars travelling in France without a GB sticker, yet I have never heard of anyone being penalised for this.

A European style number plate with the GB inside the 12 stars on a blue background on the left hand side of the plate is recognised throughout the EU. I believe that even Switzerland is recognising it now even though they are not in the EU.

I believe if you have the original green licence you will a translation of it in the appropriate language, or an international one. At least if you get the international, you should not come across any problems on the way. Enjoy your holiday (only 3 weeks to mine - yeehaa).

Hi same problem a few days ago phoned the caravan club the answer was you must have the plates with EU cicle and GB on the plates or you need to have GB stickers on car and caravan
