Hi to everyone hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather, don't know about you but I just can't make up my mind which beach to go to next. About myself, as a familly we have camped in tents, trailer tents and caravans but now the kids are to cool to come with us (they all have a tent though] we have a two berth Abbey Aventura. As for a tow car we use a xsara picasso 1.8. it doesn't do a bad job of towing but being a petrol engine you have to rev it to get decent acceleration, headwinds play havoc with fuel consumption so it has to go in favour of something more suitable.
Have been a member of the caravan and camping club for a while so who knows we may get a chance to meet one day, next big trip is the lake district in June ( highest rainfall in the UK what were we thinking ) looking forward to that.
many thanks Ian

Hi Ian, welcome to the Practical Caravan Forum.
I'm sure that you'll get many suggestions regarding good towing vehicles on the Towcars message board, good luck with the trip to the Lake District and it's always nice to greet a fellow C&CC member

hello ian, welcome to the forum, while it is true this years been a complete washout up to now, by june it should be better I hope so as that is when we go to away but in the other direction to south devon.
regarding tow cars, providing the van is not too heavy ie less than 1200kg MTPLM the choice of tow car is limitless really there is plenty of smallish cars out there that will do the job quite well. I tow with a 1.7cdti meriva and must say are well impressed yes you do take a hit economy wise while towing but that is only while the vans on the back as soon as it's disconnected your back to 60mpg,
and as many remark on the forum you dont have to go to the other end of the country just to spend time in the van,
colin
