Hi All

Advice needed our tap is dripping it is geting quicker, we had a new tp fitted because the old one had split and was dripping.
But recently we went away first time since with new tap. after turning the tap on and off a few time it started to drip again
Hubby thinks there is some like a micro switch or valve that works under the tap, he was going to have a look but you can guess more problems

The screws which hold down the tap system have rusted so this stopped play...
we are due to go on holiday and hubby doesn't want to break anything, the dealer is not close to us, has anyone any knowledge of what to do how easy or difficult it is? Should we get it back to the dealer who did the service??

We have a 91 swift and hubby has never done this before.. but the tap is leaking at a regular pace now to the point we take out the pump..

If it is in fact the micro-switch, that is replaced from underneath the sink. No need to remove the tap. If you have switched taps, you will see the two wires going to both taps. To replace a microswitch pull off the two wires from the terminals and prise up the holding clip. The switch sits on two plastic pins. Lift it off and replace with a new one.

Sorry that I can't offer any suggestions on how to stop the tap from dripping but if all else fails and the dealers are too far away had you thought about contacting a local mobile approved caravan service engineer?
Our supplying dealer is 100 miles from where we live and we used to have servicing done when we holidayed in the area but we now use a very good ncc approved mobile engineer who is just up the road and half the price for servicing.

The microswitchs only activate the pump,so if the pump is not continuesly running then the microswitch is ok . I suspect the tap washer is at fault. You need to know what tap it is & how to dismantle it

Previous comment is correct.Microswitch only senses flow and switches on the pump.If the tap drips when turned off then it is a sealing problem.I think the tap probably has a ceramic cartridge instead of conventional washers and this can be replaced.Don't know how easy it will be to source but easy to fit.

If you're in France, (from your other post) and need to do anything with the tap, then Narbonne Accessories have branches all over, and we found them very helpful. In fact we bought a tap from them, which was cheaper than the one in our local dealership when we got home!

thanks everyone
Yes, hubby went on the net which said it might be micro switch, hes played and when the taps are turned off the red light goes out for the pump. so not the switch
next is as you say changing the washers. Bathroom tap is ok ... the tap does not leak from the bottom at all only dripping out from the spout. If you understand what I'm saying? We thought having the tap changed would mean everything would be new but maybe not.. we have a diagramme of the net, but it's drawings and looks complicated..

So if we change the washer under the tap could that stop a drip from the top?

Hello Smiley,
Form the to-and-fro of the questions and answers, I get the strong impression that your 1991 caravan uses micro switches in each of the taps to control the water pump. In essence when the tap is turned off no water should get past the washer so regardles of the type of water pump control system you have, you definately have a leaking tap. Whether the washer can be replaced depends on the design of the tap.
For the tap to leak two things must be present, firstly pressure in the water pipes, and secondly the leaky seal in te tap.
There are two possible causes for the pressure in the pipework:
If you have a storasge water heater (most likley a Carver Cascade 2) which is designed to keep a small air cap in the tank. this is to give cold water room to expand when it is heated. This generates raised pressure in the hot water pipes, and if you have a leaky hot tap then you will get a cup full or so of water caused by the expansion.
The other reason will be if you have a pressurised water system. This uses a pressre switch near the cold water inlet to the caravan that monitors the pressure in the cold water pipework. If the pressure is to low, a micro switch in the pressure sensor closes and turns on the pump, and the pump will run until the pressure in the pipe work rises enough to open the microswitch. So with the taps closed the pipe work will be held at a raised pressure, and thus any leaks will continue to let water past.
One of the symptoms of a leak on a pressure switched system is the pump will continuously turn on and off periodically to replenish the pressure lost through the leak.

FG's comments only applies to a presure switched system, where if the battery voltage is too low, the pump cannot produce enough water pressure to turn the pressure switch off. To compensate for this the pressure switch needs to be adjusted, or teh battery charged.

But fundamentally you have a leaking tap.

As the tap was new, when replaced by the dealer, I would just put up with it during the holiday, and then go back and ask them to replace it, with a tap which doesn't leak, when you come back! After all, a new tap shouldn't leak at all from whatever cause!
