The other day, a member asked about sites in Holland. DianneT and myself replied, Dianne recommending he read her blog, and me a site that we had used this year, and loved.
So that's two people took the time to reply to his request, but neither of us has received a nod to say thank you.
Is it just me, or do others find this annoying?

......its just what happens on a public forum and yes I also think it is Naff!

As It happens my wife and I had a great 3 week holiday in Holland in June with glorious weather and I could have contributed to that post.
I did not bother....... since as you say there is often no response and certainly likely no thanks!

It is irritating not to be thanked but I try to think that any good and helpful stuff that I do is because it is right to do it of itself, and is not dependent on the response of others. Just because the asker of the question doesn't take the trouble to say thank you; you have still done a good thing and I hope you and others carry on doing so. Don't want to get too philosophical on a Sunday afternoon, (especially while still sober) but higher moral acts (such as doing good for the sake of doing good irrespective of others response) are essential to the future of humanity. As per the Paradoxical Commandments as below (I personnally favour the adapted version written by Mother Theresa but some folks may not like the religious content)

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith
  1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
    Love them anyway.
  2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
    Do good anyway.
  3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
    Succeed anyway.
  4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
    Do good anyway.
  5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
    Be honest and frank anyway.
  6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
    Think big anyway.
  7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
  8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
    Build anyway.
  9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
    Help people anyway.
  10. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

No it's not just you Emmerson I find it bl**dy annoying also, in fact to be honest I have declined to answer further question by the same poster quite a few times.
if they cannot be bothered to reply I cannot be bothered to answer, their questions not exactly the spirit of the forum, but hey common courtesy costs nothing.

It can be disconcerting when no response is forthcoming after you have taken the time and trouble to answer a query but there could be a multitude of reasons why the questioner didn't come back to you so don't take it to heart.
My own personal bugbear is when I send an email intended to help someone or to supply information where it can do some good and there is no reply or acknowledgement at all.
No point in getting annoyed, it's not worth the rise in blood pressure
