Is it worth changing to 13 pin Euro socket

Hi

I'm just about to get a Witter fixed towbar fitted to my new Sorento Titan towcar. Is is worth getting the 13 pin socket fitted rather than the 12N and 12S setup I had previously. I would, obviously have to have the wiring on my Bailey Senator changed too.

I am planning on having the Alko ATC system fitted to the 'van in the near future.

Any comments of the relative merits of the 13 pin system.

Thanks

Tim

Tim,

If you use the search facility on this forum, there's loads of threads on the ISO11446 "Euro 13 pin" socket and plug, but in outline:

If you've suffered from connection or pin-burn out on the 12S socket - then the answer is yes, change.

If you plan to change your caravan before changing your car, then apparently new caravans will be fitted with the Euro 13 pin connector - and then it would make sense to plan ahead and fit the 13 pin connector.

If through regular maintenance you've kept the 12N+S connectors in perfect condition and never had any problems, then you might want to keep with the old system.

For us, the 13 pin connector has worked perfectly over the last two cars - and this connector has been a standard since 1988...

The ability of this twist-lock connector to consistently supply 25 Amps would make it a good choice for the AL-KO ATC - basically I wouldn't like to use a safety related system where the power connector is a push fit..
