Is there a computer buff out there?

Hi
I am filling in an on line form to claim a cashback offer (the only way it can be done) and I have reached a point where it says 'scan in a copy of the invoice and receipt' What does this mean and how do I go about it? Answers in 'simple' English (for a simple mind) would be really appreciated.

Hi Anne
Presumably you have made a purchase which offers cashback and you received a receipt or invoice for the goods that you bought.
Do you have a printer which is linked to your computer at home?

If the answer is 'No' then your best course of action would be to visit your local library, take the receipt or invoice along, write down the website which is offering the cashback so that you can remember it and the library staff should be able to help, unless you have children or grandchildren who have printers with their computers.

If the answer is 'Yes' then check your printer to see if it is a printer / scanner.
A printer / scanner will have a hinged lid which lifts up to reveal a glass (or clear plastic) surface underneath

If it is a printer / scanner you will need to get into the printer programme from your computer.

1) Left click 'Start' on your computer then 'All Programmes' (all mouse clicks are left click unless otherwise stated)
A list of the programmes which are on your computer will appear.
In this list will be the name of the printer machine e.g. 'Lexmark'
2) Click on the printer ( sometimes all you need to do is to 'hover' the mouse pointer over the name of the printer)
Another list ( or menu) will appear.
3) Have a look to see if there is a User Guide or Instructions, click on them and have a read through to familiarise yourself with the printer.
4) After you have checked if you have a printer / scanner and read the User Guide get back to me and we'll go through the next bit

hi Anne, just got in from work so this may be a little late But!!, basically what they are asking for is a copy of the reciept when you paid for it, and the invoice that you got when it was delivered, as what you are doing is electronic mail you have to get the paperwork in a form that will transfer electronicaly back to them with the form, this is done on a scanner where the image of the paperwork is digitised to a form that can be understood by the computer and saved as a document file (as you would with a word document) this can be either done direct to the computer from a scanner/printer attached to it (similar to doing a fax) or separetly on a machine that has the ability to save data on a card or dongle, this data is then saved on your computer as a word file. when you have filled out the form copy and paste the word file and attach this to the form. (note) if there is to be a gap between filling out the form and getting the paperwork scanned, save the form when completed to your documents folder on your computer so you then dont have to do it again and have a copy for later just in case,
Parksy is well able to assist you further when needed. I just thought an explaination of what is required and why? may be helpful..

Sounds as if the company want ot make it as difficult as possible to claim a cash back. A common practice with some companies.

not really Surfer, it's just a way of establishing proof of purchase and quite common with internet sales, true the company should have this anyway but it is easier done on one form, not realy much different than buying from argos on line, where the recipt is sent via email with a pickup code, where they assume you have,a printer to transfer the data back to hard copy on pick up.

Not every one has a printer and scanner which is why I think that they make it difficult for people claiming a refund.

Another option if you don't have a scanner but do have a fairly good digital camera is to just take a close up photo of the invoice. It won't be quite as good but as long as you can read it I'm sure they will be happy.
