My wife and I are ex caravaners and would like to return, our present car is a 4.0L XJ6 Jaguar. I like the car very much and do not want to change it, does anyone out there have any experience with this car for towing? Or any other comments re- using the Jag as a tow car.

Many thanks in advance Rob.

I did meet one caravanner who was using the XJ8 and he was delighted with it. Pulled anything. His fuel consumpetion was pretty awful, but he said it was as bad driving solo and he felt the other benefits outweighed this. The other small point is the boot is a bit on the small side for all the usual caravanning gear. If you like it then go for it.

I bought myself a 3.2 Executive as a 60th birthday present and considered using it as a towcar - no problem with power, it has rear wheel drive and contrary to peoples perception, big Jags are relatively economic - mine did 26 mpg average which is better than most large petrol 4x4's.

The big no no was the lack of ground clearance, which you must be aware of too, as an owner - mine would ground it's rear exhaust pipes on my sloping driveway even unloaded and with a van on the back I worried that there would be severe problems on most field sites.

Spring assisters might help but I chickened out and stayed with 4x4's for towing.

The Jag Drivers or Enthusiast Clubs could help perhaps, some members might be vanners.
