I'm so sorry to hear that Ed. We got back from that site yesterday morning, it was very muddy and the cars had churned it all up. The lake was as high as I've seen it but there was no problem on the hard standings.

It may be worth keeping an eye on this flood watch site before you make a final decision

My OH says that although the last date mentioed is Jan 2008, there is a date at top left saying Sept 2nd so it could be up to date.

It may be worth phoning the number on that page to check. Maybe the wardens are just being over cautious because the river is high.

I don't know what we would do in this situation but good luck anyway.

Have you tried Castlerigg caravan and camping park? Not quite as handy for the town but you can walk from there. We've done it many times.

The site may well be under water.

We stayed there 4 years ago and we got a tap on the caravan window in the middle of the night with the warden saying the river that runs around the edge of the site had burst it's banks and we had 1 hour max to get off the site (not easy when you have a full awning and 2 sleeping children).

We ended up staying at the "Quiet Site" near Ullswater. Not sure of the details but google Quiet site should bring it up. Really nice place and it's on a hill so no danger of flooding.

Good luck!

Hello Ed

We received the phone call as well. Very difficult to get a site, all were fully booked. Still trying.

We are not members of the C & CC club and paid a deposit. They want to put the deposit in a holding fund to be used later but we have requested a refund instead. You still have to write into HO to claim it.

Hey -

Even MEMBERS of the C&CC have to pay a deposit!

And they're not very happy about paying it back either - as in these circumstances!

For a club that is 'non-profit-making' their annual books make good reading....
