Keeping clean over winter.

Hi. Winter beckons and my new van goes into storage shorthly. Unfortunately the storage area is surrounded by trees, and come March, the van will be covered with green gunge which takes some effort to remove when you are three score and ten plus some more!

As I see it , I have the choice of using Fenwick's overwinter or buy a cover from Specialist Accessories, or similar. Has anyone any advice please?

Henry I bought a cover from one of the big companys after a great deal of research on them and only used it for 1 year. It left what I can only discribe as scuff marks on all the windows. I washed and polished the van before fitting, fitted it tight so it would not flap around. Id say no to one, all I do is wash the van 2 or 3 times over the winter months and its fine. We do use the van all year round so its not sat around long for it to go green, oh and its stored at home which is alot easyer.

Another thing to bear in mind is every time you change your van like an awning you may have to buy a new one!!

Hi Henry

We also had a well known brand cover which left marks over all our van and which never really polished out. Covers can keep the van clean but the worst aspect of them is that they are heavy to put on and handle, especially in the wind. Like you, we are now stored under trees and use a very lightweight cover but you could also consider a 'roof only' cover, They are a little pricey, but if the roof is your main problem, they would be easier to use and would save you having to clean the roof all the time. Might be worth thinking about.

For the past 4 years my van is parked up for the winter near to trees. and I have used Fenwick's winter wash its great van clean all winter no green bits and roof very easily washed of the leaves etc on it.

Thanks Chrissylizzie and David for your advice. Whilst browsing, I have come across earlier threads on the same subject and several people mentioned scuffing, as you did Chrissylizzie. I think I will be going alongwith Mr. Fenwick.
