Trevor,

Are you looking new or second-hand ?, have driven a Sedona and we own a VW Sharan in auto form (basically the same car bar the badge)

Hi Trevor,

As I've worked in Logistics and Fleet management for the last 12 years a couple of things I have driven a lot of cars - no idle boast just been a privilege. We had a Sedona on the fleet for a three month Demo and I can say that the good things were it stopped and started every time.

The Alhambra is to my mind a different beast the seating is infinitely flexible as the seats can all be removed total (and yes we have had a three seater in the back !! ) The ride and power is class leading. The 130 is better than the 115 bhp model and although you can chip them very easily indeed. I drove along at a steady 60 yesterday and got just over 50 mpg with the cruise on.

I think that the manual version is slightly better than the auto when towing because you can read the road better. The only down side to them is that the auto box despite being a sealed for life thing is in practice not (this apply to most auto boxes used for towing though) and it is wise to change the oil every two years or so.

Endorsement - well a few police forces have started to use them as ARV - armed response vehicles - and a few use them for Traffic work -citing that they had better running costs than a the vehicles that they replaced. Even the {pipe delimiter}Police are prudent these days.

Hi Monkey, Thanks for the info, the only thing we got with the manual is when you reverse the carvan on the pitch the clutch start to smell burning, but I don't use the rev when I reverse the caravan, mind you that very good 50 to the gallon doing steady 60 mph, what with the price of fuel keep going up all the time, so that why we are looking for something to keep the cost down, we would love to get another 4x4 but again what with the price of fuel, Many Thanks for your help and Happy Caravaning, Trevor

Trevor, it mostly depends on what you want to spend, you will of course get a newer sedona than you would alhambra for the same money but personally having driven both i much prefer the alhambra and own a 130 tdi sx 2005 model. As far as i am aware the alhambra is only available in 115 bhp with the auto tiptronic box so if you want the 130 you will have to have the manual. if you are buying new the alhambra is now suplied with the 2.0 tdi at 140 bhp. the sedona is a very good car but no where near as well built and don't forget kia are very shortly releasing a totally new version so i would wait if possible also ford are releasing a totally new galaxy in june which is getting rave first reports so again it may be worth waiting. basically if cost and equipment are your main concern then the sedona wins but if you want confidence quality and refinement then the alhambra wins hands down.
