Kia Sorento Bouncy Bouncy!

We have an '07 Plate Sorento XT, brilliant towcar and looks the biz in black. My only complaint is that it gives a very bouncy ride, a rough road whether towing or not really shakes you about. The shock absorbers are fine. Does anybody find the same? Is there a remedy?

Not really, just think yourself lucky you did not get the older version, now they were a harsh ride.

I have towed with both models and would accept that the face lift model, without self leveling suspension is more bouncy when towing. On my last trip out I increased the pressures in the rear tyres by 5 psi which seemed to help.

we drove in 08 a new demo car and the bouncy ride solo put us off buying one. the test run was on a B road and after my mazda 6 it did not feel safe.

Mine's an '05 XSE in black.
They're well known for being very 'agricultural' on roughish roads, it's because of non independent rear suspension, very truck-like and Defenderish. There's really nothing you can do about it as it's the way it was designed.
However as you say they're a brilliant tow wagon and on smooth roads and motorways they're an excellent long distance hauler.

The facelift version had a completely different rear suspension to the older model, it was an improvement ,but far from being a good ride, but as most people buy these cars to tow, it is a sacrifice that has to be made.

most suv;s will "bounce and feel different to a saloon vehicle. The Sorento is quiet usefull off road
( unklike some suv's) and its just the way it is.

dont expect saloon car ride and handling in an suv.

Your XT will have the low profiles and larger wheels compared to my 05 XS. Personally I think the Sories run better on the big fat non low profile tyres. All a matter of taste. When we first bought it it did feel bouncy compared to the Audi A4 Avant. Five years on I can't call it bouncy at all. I guess we've just got used to it.

Have a look at uksorento.com.

Hi I have a 2007 face-lift Sorento 2-5 auto. Had the previous model for 6 weeks before 'convincing' the dealer it was dodgey so they did me deal on a new one. had it for 3 yrs towing a twin axle & now a new sterling Ruby single axle. I found the suspension of the face-lift very bouncy as suggested in comparision. I fitted a MAD air suspension system, cost about £150 for the kit, took me 1/2 day to fit myself without any major dramas, didn't even need to take the wheels off.
Pumping it up with a simple 12v air compressor stiffiens the suspension as required, stops the yawing with the van in tow & dropping it downa bit when not towing provides a great ride solo.
Well worth the effort IMHO.

Thats interesting. I fitted the MAD springs to a Peugeot 405 many years ago and they were very effective. Not really thought about doing the same for the Sorento. I am not sure I am fit enough to be doing it myself now, have you any idea where they could be fitted for me?
Thanks
David
