Kia Sorenton

I bought my first Sorento 3.5 years ago and was more than happy with it. Then in November it let me down. Coming back from Birmingham I could not change gear and had to limp home. This happened again two weeks later so I took it back to the dealer. Sod's law, they could not get it to do what it did to me despite having it in the garage for over two weeks. They admitted they were at a loss to understand what the problem was. The only thing they said was that it had lost power and was very sluggish. So, after they told me it would cost about £2000 to even try and find out what was wrong with it, I decided to purchase a new one. Now, after four weeks, the same thing has happened on my new Sorento. Last night, coming back from Manchester over the pennines, the gears went again and I had to turn off the engine at roundabouts, put it in gear and start off. I managed to get within half a mile from home, had to stop at lights on a hill, and the car would not move. The smell from the clutch was foul and I had to go home on a breakdown truck. The Kia has been towed back to the dealer's this morning. Has anyone got any bright ideas about this problem or has any other Sorento driver experienced this problem? Any comments greatly appreciated. Thanks Anne

Sorry to read about your problem with the gears. What an amazing coincidence having the same problem on the new vehicle.

The car is obviously covered by the 3 year warranty. However for technical information and indeed many other forum boards why not try

http://kiasorento.proboards46.com/its a great forum with about 900 members, many of them are very knowledgable Kia sorento owners.

That's excellent advice Jim, Do you know if there a similar site for Kia Sedona owners? I am the proud owner of a new one, and it would be great to swap news/ideas.

Regards Colin.

Hi Colin

My first Kia was a Sedona, it was a great vehicle, turning circle and the nose weight load were the cons for me as I tow a big twin axle.

Some info on our site under Other Topics- Other Kia models.

Dear Jim

Thanks for your response. The delay in replying has been due to getting the Sorento sorted out at the dealer's. They were astounded, of course, that it had had to be delivered on the back of a breakdown truck. They got permission from Kia to take out the gearbox but they found a faulty clutch, which they replaced. On collection of the vehicle I was told that the clutch was excluded from the warranty but as it had only done 1000 miles they would exchange it this once. I have had the car back 5 days and I have reservations; most of the time the gears slip in and out perfectly, but occasionally I don't feel easy with them. So I'll have to see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. Best wishes Anne
