Has anyone had a problem with the manual box on this car? I have started to hear whiring noises on downshift when I pull up at junctions and the like so took it to my Kia dealer where I purcd car 5 months ago (4Kmiles since) who says that it needs gear box stripping out and repairs carried out- the car has only done 30k miles!! Anyway when I asked them whether the works would be carried out under warantee as only 2 yrs old I was told 'should be' which I find a bit worrying also they are going to give me a loan car for a week- without a towbar so can't go away with van when we have that. As they can't take it in for another week they have told me to use my vehicle with the noise?? So this will inevitably make the problem worse- does anyone have any comments to make- I will be really interested

Hi Jim, I agree with Barking, the Kia forum is a good place to start. I regularly visit the forum and there are very few gaerbox related problems reported, or any others for that matter.

I cannot see why the work will not be done under warranty. If you have had the car serviced to the Kia schedule and used recommeneed fluids/parts etc the only way it would not be warranty is if the dealer could show that you had abused the car in some way. ie damage caused by severe off-raod conditions. But the cars symptoms sound more like an internal problem which would be down to Kia. Using it with the noise should not worsen it, although as Kia have asked you to continue to use it you would not be responsible for any deterioration.

Be firm with them, and if the dealer will not take action, then keep pressing them and if necessary ask for a Kia technical representative to assess the car. If they are reluctant to take action and you are still concerned notify the dealer of your concerns in writing.
