I have a 2007 Sportage diesel. It is superb. My wife loves the comfy driving position. Had a TD4 Freelander before and whilst this was very good, the spare wheel got in the way and it felt rather dated. The Sportage has a 6 speed box and the lower 1st gear gives more confidence when pulling away on an incline.

Whilst the nose weight is less than the Freelander I have not found it a problem at all. It seems to swallow a lot of junk.

The only downside is that it is not as good on fuel as the Freelander when solo. I tow an Abbey Aventura 316.

I saw an 06 Sportage today with a sunroof, but sun roofs do not seem to be an oprion? It looked like a factory job.

Titan model = sunroof, sorted.

Alex, I notice that the overall payload is not huge, about 420 kg, with a full boot and 75kg on the towball, do you get much sag in the rear?

To be honest, we dont have an awning so we just put water roll, food and clothes in the car. We never have sag at rear!

I tow a 1500kg Swift with all the usual stuff on board including full awning(poles in the 'van). This includes a dog cage and all the bits required for a two-week stay. The Sportage performs without fuss and tows very easily.Cant fault it as a tow car but it does have a slight "flat-spot" solo or towing which Kia seem unable to resolve. This is my only gripe with the car.It outperforms the Freelander with respect to internal space.

Nigel,

Like Alex I also have a 2007 model diesel it is a lot of car for your money. We pull a Ace Jubilee with a MPTLM 1396kgs with no dramas. I have only one word of caution and that is the first servie price. I got mine serviced last year for it's first service and got a quote of

Barry, my van is about the same weight as yours, 1380kg, my current car a Mazda 6 droops somewhat when loaded and 75kg on the ball which is one of the reasons I want to change. But, according to the figures, the payload of the Sportage is less than that of my Mazda. How do you find it from a point of view on the rear suspension? What speed is the rig happy at on the motorway? with my old lighter van I could cruise at 60 easy, but the mazda with 1380kg on the bake is not happy much above 50. They do seem a good buy.

This is perhaps a stupid answer, but the chances are that the dealer sub contracts the fitting out to a tow bar company. By pure luck I managed to find who my local dealer subbed to and got the bar done cheaper.

On another point if you choose the black bumper protector thing, they rust, the aluminium ones do not but have very sharp edges so cover it in some sort of tape.

It's early days but very impressed with the Sportage so far, have found an NTTA accredited mobile fitter that will fit a detachable with twin electrics for

Nigel

Had a 2007 Sportage and it was really good towing our Bailey Pageant Burgundy, really liked it. A friend was so impressed he swapped his Jeep in for one and is really pleased.

The only reason we,ve swapped is beacuse our daughter had another son and so with her and the 2 boys when they come, we're a bit short on space.

We swapped in for a auto Sedona, no comparison on fuel but there again there's quite a difference in room and towing.

l agree looks good car for the money but a little aprehensive about the low nose weight, only 75KG l think l would struggle to get near that.

Hi there

I have been reading the good reports on the above. Please could you say how much the road TAX is on Kia sportage and fuel returns.

Many thanks a TD4 Freelander owner looking to change.
