Good Morning All

Some of you may have seen in previous posts, that my husband and I have recently purchases a Kia Sportage on 58 plate, picked it up on 1st October. We did extensive research before selecting the Kia, as for many years we have been loyal to Vauxhall.

Towed on Friday and must say car handled brilliantly, no issues what so ever and arrived at rally safe and sound. It raised great interest amongst our friends as this was the first time they had seen in, and where eager to learn all about it.

On Saturday I popped out to local village to do some shopping, whilst I was gone, one of our friends noticed a patch of oil on the floor and mentioned it to my husband; they initially thought the mower might have left it. However, on closer inspection realised there was a further patch where we had parked over night.

On arrival back on site I was greeted by a few members eager to identify where this oil had come from. So bonnet was up (after I found catch!!) had one guy underneath car another under the bonnet, three or four onlookers! Boy's just love to investigate and confer. Anyway, to cut a long story short found oil dripping down through engine, so off into van to ring Kia assist. Very helpful, very apologetic and advised someone would be with me on site within the hour, 20 minutes later van arrives, very nice young lade by the name of Naomi (and if ever you get her she is brilliant and certainly knows her stuff). Diagnosed oil cooler fault, and car would need to be towed to nearest Kia garage. So off they went and I received a call just after 8 on Monday morning from garage again apologising and advising they would be looking at my car as a matter of urgency, two hours later received call confirming yes original diagnosis was correct and what work was needed and timescales.

My question really is, has anybody else experienced this problem with their Kia Sportage, it just makes me a little nervous as only had car 10 days!!

Your comments would be most welcome

Many thanks and sorry for the long post, but feel better now have off my chest!!

Hi,

I have an 09 plate Kia Sportage and am very happy with it and the service from the main dealer.

We have had an issue with a rattle on the exhaust but its been sorted out in a friendly and efficient manner.

It tows my van superbly and it does sound like you have had excellent service from Kia assist and the garage themselves.

Did you get the 7 year warranty they now offer on used Sportages up to 18 months old? hope so.

All the best

While it is really annoying that this has happened, hats off to kia for their speedy response to the situation.

What Vauxhall did you used to tow with?

As you can probably guess I tow with a Zafira!!! (an 08 plate 150 CDTi one)

I may look at a Sorrento next year as it is becoming more car like (I do 25000+ miles a year), the 7 year warranty and from your experience excellent Kia backup....

We run a Sedona and previously a Sportage.

I can fully endorse what Di has said about Kia.

Our local dealer in Stoke-on-Trent (Ken Jervis) is excellent. In fact we're having a problem with the auto which apparently is affecting 06 on Sedonas only when towing and we've been contacted by Kia head office to update us.

You can really see how Hyundai/Kia have just knocked Ford out 4th spot in the world.

They've really sorted there servicing side out a lot and the products seem to be getting better.

Aren't sure how good DSG gearboxes are though.

Hi Di

Don't really understand why you are 'not a happy bunny'.

ALL cars go wrong and it sounds like you received absolutely amazing service from Kia and will probably encourage more Kia sales.

Lets hope you've just been unlucky with a small item and all will be smooth from now on.

This post smacks as a sales pitch to me, how the hell can you complain about that level of service?

Hi All

Thanks for your comments, however I think some people may have the wrong idea..... I am not complaining about the service received because it was really good, it is just that had the car 10 days when problem occurred and my question was had anybody else suffered the same fault.

Kia Rescue (RAC) where excellent, after first initial phone call they arrived and diagnosed the fault, and took car to nearest Kia garage, and on Monday morning received call back from garage within 15 minutes of them opening...

Hope this makes things clearer, and just an update hoping to get the car back on Friday, so will be off to NEC on Saturday.

Di,

Your experience certainly compares well with my own in respect of Land Rover!

It took them 6 months to pluck up the courage to replace what turned out to be the faulty indicator stalk of my 07 plate Freelander 2 after many malfunctions on the road of my left hand indicators, not very pleasant when you are towing I can tell you. Took several journeys to and fro the dealer and letters to LR etc before they finally bit the bullet and replaced the stalk. The very course of action recommended by their recovery engineer first time I had to call them!

Won't be buying another Land Rover thats for sure......

Hello Di

That sounds like pretty good service to me.

I am quite amazed that modern cars are in fact as reliable as they are, When you consider the number of parts that go into them, and the conditions they have to endure it is quite remarkable that we don't see more breakdowns.

My own experience many years ago (1970's)was to collect a new Renault 12, and it brokedown within the first mile of the garage due to a faulty fuel pump!

Haven't got a Sportage but have a 2006 Sorento XS. Not long after buying it I had a oil leak with just a few months warranty left. The garage I bought it off told me it was a drive shaft seal leaking and because of the warranty it would be better if a Kia dealer did it. Took it to a Kia dealer and they confirmed it was a drive shaft seal but also there was a leak from the steering rack. They replaced the seal and fitted a new steering rack whilst I had a courtesy car. That was last May and since then I've been away towing numerous times from Penzance to Brora with no problems.

Excellent service from Kia.
