For beautiful views you can't beat Castlrigg Hall caravan site. You need to be anywhere but at the bottom of the site as you don't get the views at the bottom

The CC site at Troutbeck, midway between Keswick & Penrith, has good views to Blencathra and the Mell Fells. It's a very nice site with two toilet blocks of a very high standard. Nice hostelries nearby for meals.
We were at the Coniston CC Site this August and it is stunning. It is in a pine forest with all sorts of birds and wildlife and lots of little glades where you are pitched with 3 or 4 other vans so it feels very private. It is a couple of minutes walk through the campsite to Lake Coniston and it is a beautiful lake - very peaceful compared to Windermere and unspoiled.

I tried Coniston last year but I didn't enjoy it. I thought the pitches, while attractive, were quite small in many instances. We were there in October and, when it rained, it took ages for the ground to dry out as the sun barely reached the ground because of the very high trees. Coming from the north, it is very much easier for us to reach Troutbeck and this would always be my first choice in the Lakes.

I would agree with Kathryn, try Park Coppice in Coniston, although you dont get views as such from the pitches, because of the trees. You are right on the edge of Coniston Water, with a fairly short walk into the village itself.
Malcolms comment re shade is also true for some pitches but by no means all of them, as they are all different. The approach road from the North is also much more difficult than from the south.

They have the same views as the big sites at a fraction of the cost, and the owners have a lot of local knowledge.
One I`ve used quite a lot is :- Mrs Cooper, Upper Hawthwaite Farm, Broughton in furness,only a short drive from Coniston Water, It`s adult only, ( I don`t know if that affects you) but you can wake up to Stickle Pike out of the window,an exelent pub The Blacksmiths Arms is about half a mile, they serve great food and lovely beer.

Try Faugh Head Farm in the Eden Valley at Ainstable, you have never seen sunsets until you see them there, it is a small cs site with hook-ups and showers , there is a swimming pool, which is bookable.

We went to Lowther Caravan park near Ulleswater, although no views as such it is a lovely site with a river running through it & the children can play also at the end of the site is a forest with lovely walks.

On the western coast of the lakes is a village called Haverigg, it is near the town of Millom, the Millom RUFC is actualy at Haverigg and has on it`s field a cl or cs site with hook ups,the use of club house toilets and showers. The extensive field is situated about 150yards from the beach, which is sandy with dunes between the beach and rugby field, the view inland is of the 2,000ft Blackcombe,(I have looked at it all my life and still think it`s magnificant)Haverigg is about 30min drive from Coniston,and the same from Ravenglass with its minature railway (The LA`L Ratty) running.8 miles into Eskdale wher the veiws are great, It is an undiscovered and under used corner and as such is fairly quiet.
Come and visit I`ll bet you come back again.
