We are hoping to buy a van in the next few weeks and we are a concerned as we have seen a few sites that have a six person maximum occupancy policy.

We have five children so their will be seven of us. How widespread is this policy?

We actually caravan as a group of upto 5 vans and 30 people. So far we have not come across the problem Of numbers of people or caravans, despite some folks saying we might get mistaken for travellers. I always declare how many vans and people on making a booking enquirey, and so far I've not been refused or scoffed at.

We do stay clear of the add on charging sites and tend to go for the more basic sites that charge for the van/awning and electric. rather than per person.

Got a cracking site at easter in Tywyn mid wales for

hi shrek, if you are in the caravan club the dog and awning are free.if your van is a 6 berth they let 6 in the van and 2 i think in the awning, prob more if you have bedroom annex.caravan club sites are fantastic, spotless.i know people think you have to be snob to join but that is just rumours.we are a young family in our thirties with 2 kids and a 1 year old staffieeverybody is polite and always says hello.you dont have to have a new van to go on there and if you ever have aprob people will always give you a hand when needed.hope this helps.

We have caravanned and camped with our kids friends and boy friends with people carrier. 7 of us have never had a problem as a FAMILY unit!

I think some of the party number guides is to prevent groups of rowdy youths on sites.

Your pricing is right Shrek. Some sites by the time you add up all the bits can be quite pricy.

Another reason why years ago we headed to France where Awnings were part of the deal, with sites with very large leisure pools and the generally good weather ferry cost and tolls can be offset by your out lay whilst on site.

A day in the sunshine at a nice beach or around a huge campsite pool bigger than our local leisure centres + all the other activities is far cheaper than paying parking fees, pleisure pool entrance or other UK entertainment fees to ammuse the kids.

My parking bill over the past twenty years around France has not got to

Thanks for the good advice Jo-anne and nice to know the rumours are a myth. We'll look into membership.

I see, family unit is the important issue. As the kids are all under 12 we should be fine.

France! Good to hear the cost. It is one of the reasons we have decided to pursue our long term dream of a tourer. We tried to plan a trip to France this year and due to my disability five hours drive in a day is max. Trying to book good quality accessible accomodation for 7, one night at a time en-route from Yorkshire was practically impossible and very expensive.

I've used the tunnel several times and reckon this would be our choice.

Rock and Roll Shrek. Nice to see another binning the dissability concerns :) and going for it.

I've met disabled caravanners staying in the likes of Formule 1 budget hotels on route in France rather than set up the rig at a site.

F1 are part of the Accor chain http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/gb/faq/hotels_services/index.html

It is possible to book budget family rooms at a reasonable price cheaper than UK on route and with other budget French hotel chains.

Hi Shrek,

Before America went off to fight the world we used to go as a party to ROUND PLANTATION, at Mildenhall, to the Air Show every year. Can't go now cos aircraft just aint available for shows etc but to get to the point, for the first few years we had 4 kids and took a couple of their friends as well. The Warden in those days was an absolute sweet heart and a totally good egg. He would do everything he could to accommodate the party and make our W/E the booming success it always was. Numbers were never a problem. Then a new warden came and although numbers were still not an issue- it had risen to 11 now! six in the van and 5 in the awning, things were just not the same. Full fees were demanded, no discount for anything and generally no fun- it all depends on the warden at the end of the day- he can make it or break it!

OK Plotter. You "cut and paste"

Hold down the left click key on your mouseand drag over the link! I wil be hilighted in blue!

Then right click and box will open and left click on copy.

Clear the address bar and the right click and then select the option paste from the little box that opens. The linl will then be in you address bar click enter or whatever and you should then open the link selected :)

You can do the same with any text say from a BBC web site or another post and enter it in your Post Message box here.

Any recomendations for good value large family friendly sites in the Yorkshire/ Derbyshire/ Lincolnshire area for our first trips?

Hi Shrek,

Sorry mate ,can't help you with those areas but I guess the best thing is to ring the site and ask what the policy is. It is a sad fact that this country seems to dislike children! Best of luck- I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

Merve
