The longest we have stayed at Gandspette is 3 nights and perhaps the majority of people are there for short stays, largely because of the convenient location for the ferry ports. We would have no worries about staying there for longer; it is a nice site, with good facilities and we have always found plenty to do in the area.

I was there two years ago at the *** end of the season and nothing on the site was open. However and taking this into consideration I would not go again. In my opinion and at that time of year, there are much better sites in the vicinity.

There are no sites locally that are 'better' just different sites. I have stayed at 6 campsites within easy reach of Dover and Gandspette is the only one to accept Camping Cheques. Le Bien Assise at Guines used to accept Touring Cheques. There are quite a few sites about 40/50 miles west of Calais that accept Camping Cheques but I assume from your post that you want to be nearer. We tend only to stay at Gandspette for a couple of nights at a time, simple because we are usually starting or just ending our holiday. I know opinions differ but Gandspette is one of our favourite sites. Got some pictures on my website www.caravantravels.co.uk if you want to look.

We've stayed lots of times at Ganspette - usually in late May/early June, or late August/early September. Each time we've been there, we've generally met at least one couple who stay for more than the usual day or two - and some of them go every year!!! The site is easily accessible from the main routes to the port, the sanitary facilities are kept very clean, there is a restaurant on site, which offers extremely good value (if limited menu) food. The pitches in the newer part of the site are big, and the new wash-block is very good. I'm not sure when Evans of Sprot stayed there - but I suppose if he was there right at the end of the season then facilities might be limited. Also, it's a site which looks best in sunshine - there is a lot of shade from the wooded areas surrounding the site, and in bad weather it can be a little 'dark'. We've looked hard to find alternative sites - and so would be intersted in the ones mentioned by Evans of Sprot - so far we haven't found anything better.
