Hi

I've posted the question under the wrong section - equipment and accessories, would anyone be able to help???

Suspect it's frost damage as the water was pouring from around the cowl. Tried to disconnect the tap, but ended up cutting the hot and cold pipes and blanking them off so that at least I was able to have water to the kitchen sink. The question is how can I remove the tap as it's housed in a block of wood, under the sink and there's no way you can get an adjustable spanner in to loosen the fixing. Does it mean I'll have to remove the basin unit to get to it?

If anyone could help I'd be really grateful. julie

if your pageant is built from 2004 it should have dimatech taps fitted. if this is the case, you dont need to remove the tap at all. under the hot/cold indicator (red/blue blob) on top of the faucet lever ther is a screw. under the screw and remove the lever. then use a spanner to remove the large nut underneath. this will allow you to remove the valve cartridge which will almost certainly be split. in some instances the 3 hole o ring underneath may have become dislodged and may need re-seating. if the cartridge is split, simply replace and re-assemble the tap. job done in 5 minutes.

Hi thanks for that. My husband did manage to get the lever off and remove the cartrige, we inspected it closely and there didn't appear to be any cracks, obvious or hairline. The difficulty is that we couldn't get to whatever is situate directly below the cartrige, a service technician came to our assistance, so that we would have water for our five day break (being away with three kids it's essential)he said that he had had no alternative than to cut the hose's and cap them off. Is there anyway we can check if the cartrige is leaking? In addition the 3 hole "o" ring came away, my husband said it appeared to be in good condition, and re-seated it on putting all of the bits back. It made no difference, hence the cutting of the hoses...any suggestions??? thanks

when taken apart you will see two rubber rings one top one bottom, these are quad rings not o rings, not washers.quad rings make a seal from internal pressure not external.any reputable engineer with a micrometer will supply you with new ones of the exact size and more important the correct hardness of rubber, cost about a pound each.replace with veg oil, reassemble internalls and make sure to tighten big (usually brass) ring that clamps the cartridge in tight but only hand tight.these quad ring wear becuase of the side to side movement of the spout.if you lay all the parts out in order, replace rings then reasemble and the tap still leaks try tightening the inner coller a little more, its very strong but you only want enough pressure to stop the leak. if after all this the tap still leaks you will have wasted your time and two pounds.to get to the internals follow advice from caravan oracle this fix will work good luck

One other point. You say the "engineer" cut and blanked off the two pipes. At full repair, do not let yourselves be fobbed off with a jointer in these pipes (hoses). Make sure you get both hot and cold, red & blue, new hose lengths, from the shower tap to the T junction pick-off. (Probably at feed under the vanity sink.)

Joints in these somewhat small pipes are bad news re flow/pressure, to be avoided at all costs.

Cheers

Dave
