Leisure battery in a tourer

Can I charge a leisure battery in a tourer with a smart charger using a extension from a 3 pin socket in the van to the charger instead of having extension from house running down the drive

I may be being a bit thick but where does the 240v from the caravan internal 3 pin socket come from?

No, you would need to hook the caravan up to a 230 volt supply. Then you could use a 3 pin plug to power a charger.

Usually under a flap on the side of the caravan, or if your van has an external battery box it is likely in there. It is a round fixed blue plug with three round pins, it is to BS4343 or EU CEE17 and is rated 230V 16A. You can buy a ready made 2.5mm orange cable 25m long with suitable plug and socket on the ends from any caravan shop/dealer for about £20 assuming you don't have one already.
