Poor charging can ruin even a good battery and most caravan 'chargers' are infact 12v power sources with a secondary use as a poor battery charger!

However and mostly, leisure batteries come in two physical sizes and we take it one is 85Ahr and the other 110Ahr, while this should be true it seems we've been seriously conned for years!! but no more.

Come September all batteries must be correctly and truthfully labelled and this includes their true capacity, all the good manufactures have already changed over.

Now it may still say xx110 but it won't say 'Ahr' after unless it is, beyond 110 it will perhaps state it's '20 hour rate' which is a bit confusing, good batteries though are more likely to be up front with the truth and state clearly the Ahr rating in Ahr's!.

I've just replaced my battery with a carbon fibre Elecsol. I've had good reports from friends using them.

Last battery was one month short of its 8th birthday. I have a solar setup that looks after the battery, could be why the old one lasted so long.

To maintain their life you need to cycle them (charge and discharge) Constant charging with no discharge on EH kills them.

Never let them run completely flat and look after them over the winter period/times on inactive use by charging them once a month.

I use an Elecsol lighter smaller, they sound expensive but against a quality battery the difference is very small.

The battery i last bought in 2004 is still doing its job to day.

It was a cheap battery, but had a two year warranty.

Personally i use EHU, never go on rallies. If you rally then maybe you should consider the top of the range.

But the hardest work my battery ever does is to run the mover, 10mins max, which it does.

Gilbert, with that track record I would stick to the cheapest one you can buy; until you identify what is wreaking them.

We go for quality batteries as we need the storage capacity rather than a smoothing device for a crude charger on a EHU. Our secondary back up that also powers the mover is still going okay at 10 odd years of age; think its quality plus Ctek charger.

The wider Exide group make good ones at the appropriate price point but I think something is wrong in your application/treatment/usage and until that's changed its wasting money, good ones can easily be damaged.
