This battery from my day to day well abused drill is now 11 years old and still holding a full charge. It’s spent hours drilling screwing and winding steadies. Long by outlived the old nicads. Impressive👍👍40CFE7EB-78F4-4B8B-A723-411E22A431E2.jpeg

Li ion are streets ahead of the old nicad. My Bosch ones are quite old (10 years) and when I recently bought a Bosch impact driver I deliberately went for a Bosch one without battery so that I could use my present ones. Now li ion are mainstream I have no qualms about my next mower being cordless, problem is the old petrol mower is still going strong and I hate chucking things out. But if the family took the decision for me then Trash Nothing and freecycle would be used.

Not sure what you mean by "LI ion are streets ahead of the old ni cad",I remember years ago a nicad battery that had lain unused for more than twenty years still had retained a charge ie still had some capacity.
