My wife and I have just returned from a very eventful long weekend at Lucksall in Hereford. We arrived last Thursday at approximately 1:00pm. ready to site on pitch 4. Lining the car and caravan up ready to reverse onto the pitch the gear linkage went on the car and was stuck in 1st. gear. The gear stick was free and could be stirred to no effect. The site owner, Gary, helped to manhandle the van onto the pitch and then towed the car onto the pitch. The RAC were called but they could not fix the problem on site so we decided to have a relay back home today. This meant we were at Lucksall for 4 nights without transport.

Gary offered to lend us his car should we wish to go off site. He also called every day to the van to see if we required any thing and on calling had free ice creams for us.

Today the recovery vehicle arrived at approx. 11:15am and Gary gave a hand to load the car onto the wagon and hitch the van up to the back. We arrived home at just past 1:30pm.

Not only did we have a nice quiet relaxing stay on the site, we were treated in an exemplary manner the like of which we have never ever experienced in 40 years of caravanning. The site could not be faulted and the cordiality of Gary and his staff were second to none. If ever you want to break down on a caravan site then this is the site to do it. Excellent, quiet site with the best of welcome and help when needed.

Therefore in conclusion my wife and self would like to thank Gary, his fmily and all other staff at Lucksall for making our stay as pleasurable as possible - Thank You

Hi Colin.

Sorry to hear of your car trouble, but I'm glad you still had a very pleasureable stay at Lucksall. There are some good folks about in Herefordshire. I meet one such chap this winter at cuckoo's corner, at Moreton on Lugg 4 miles north of Hereford on the A49. Adrian (the site owner) worked tirelessly in the 7 weeks we were there, to provide all the site facilities as normal with some slight modifications to proceedure, throughout the worst winter (Jan & feb) in 30 years.

It's the Gary's & Adrians of the world that make even the worst nightmare seem acceptable.

I gave Cuckoo's corner a good site review (published June), why not do the same for Lucksall as it looks like they deserve recognition.

I reviewed my current park in 2008, but things have changed for thta park since and not for the good reasons I recalled above.

The way owners/wardens treat people is paramount to a happy park. I'll never forget Jean at Linwater caravan park at East Calder ( Ediburgh). We had booked 4 pitches as we were taking the wife's disabled parents and other family on a tour of Scotland. On our arrival at linwater somewhat tired after packing 4 caravans & driving 150 miles, she had reserved a paddock of pitches for us right next to the disabled facilities, she set about cleaning the disabled bathroom fresh for our party, and was always helpfull with all manor of things. That was back in 2004 and we still get a christmas card off her as she was so impressed in seeing a family stick together, work together to give the parents a real good time despite them being very disabled. My father-in-law could drive, but was wheel chair dependant otherwise. We always set their van up first so the bacon butties could flow with the mugs of tea.

Of coarse Colin you could of whittled out a tree canoe and of paddled up stream to meet his lordship on the embankment of the old Wye Bridge and loaded supplies at asda right next to the river.

I'm about a 18 mile paddle up the Wye ino the Lugg and up the Arrow to the first black & white village on the Arrow, from Lucksall.

Hope your repaired and rearing to go on the next adventure.

ATB Steve L.

Hi Colin

We see plenty of moans about 'wardens' or site operatives on this forum so it's always good to read about a site where excellent service above and beyond the call of duty is the norm.

Unfortunately there is not much information about this site on Caravan Sitefinder so why not give Gary and the site a good review Here and be in with a chance of winning
