I have a feeling I know the answers to this but what are the opinions on Lunar caravans. We have seen a new 2007 which is suitable in size, weight, decor etc., but what about the build quality. Any opinions or experience anyone. Thanks.

We have a 2005 Lunar Quasar and we are very happy with it. Every make/ model of van gets mentioned on here - none of them seem to be perfect. We loved the layout of the van and nothing has been wrong with it. Denise

Hi Denise

Thanks for that. It is the Quasar 520/4 which we like and it seems to be one of the better ones around in terms of colour of wood and upholstery, so at present it is front of the list.

Spent some time with a friend looking at the Solaris models. Build quality looked average (i.e. better than Bailey but worse than Coachman) the main doubt being what is obviously very poor final inspection - screws missing from door hinges (on both models) rough edges etc. The worrying thing is if they have missed seeing such obvious things, what about the bits you can't see ?

Hi Ray

We have looked at caravans by all manufacturers and found nothing perfect. I agree with your comments about Bailey and Coachman and at the moment the Lunar is definitely in the middle, but with a lot of plus points on design, decor and a slightly better use of the space than even the Coachman.

Just shows that it is down to personal choice, personally I would choose Bailey over Lunar as in my opinion I consider them to be considerably better built. I do agree though that at this time Coachman are building a better van than any other British manufacturer.

We bought a new lunar quasar 462 in september most teething problems have been resolved by dealer Lunar customer service(joke) do not return phone calls i have no manual for van not printed yet collect my 2007 model in september

Main outstanding problem is the fridge will not always work on 12volt there appears to be some sort of outstanding design problem with the theford fridge and the electrics on the van.

So if you are buying a new van with this fridge check before your leave dealer

I bought a new Clubman in 2002. Lots of problems which would have been put right a lot quicker with a decent dealer.

I can't understand Lunar carrying on with them.

Eventually everything was put right and I haven't had any problems for three years. We love the van and have no reason to change.

I think Lunar are ahead of the game for layout, design and weight. Most of their innovations are copied by others later.

As for build quality, I'm not so sure how good anyone's is.

Hi Rioja

I think we looked at almost every caravan made and as you state, we found nothing perfect, even top spec. ones. The continental vans have the best 'feel' but not the best use of space.

I will post an honest opinion on the Lunar, after a period of use. Not getting it until early January so it will be a while.
