Hi Jo-anne

Is this a problem where the struts are so strong they actually push through the panel itself?

Many types of gas struts are adjustable. They are delivered from the supplier at full pressure but this can be reduced by letting gas out until the correct force is achieved. Be careful as once gas is released it cannot be put back in! Many of them are also adjustable so that they will 'lock' in position throughout the lifting range. Of course none of this will apply if they are non adjustable but struts are not very expensive - good adjustable ones with a closed length of 300mm are less than

Hi Jo-anne

I met a chap at Grin Low earlier this year with the same problem. The fixing points of the struts to the front panel had pushed through. He thought it was because the mounting points had not been reinforced. He thought it was a design defect and was taking it up with his dealer. It was a bit worrying because short of a whole new front panel the only remedy would have involved a patch job and respraying.

His Lunar was a year old poor chap. Maybe Lunar helped him out, I don't know.

If he's reading this perhaps he can update you.

Cheers

lunar are aware of the problem as my dad has a 2008 lunar ultima 585si the gas struts that are fitted to his van are 150n he has contacted the supplier of the struts and after checking on their system he said that they only supply luner with the 110n. my dad contacted the dealers where he got the van from who have contacted lunar. lunar asked for a photo to be sent through to them to decifer whether to get his van returned to them for repair or to let the dealer do it. whilest at said dealers they had a look at 8 other new lunars of which 6 had these stress cracks on already. it appears that all 6 had already been adjusted by lunar having some sort of plate fitted behind the strut. the other 2 new vans on site had the correct 110n fitted.

Hi Jo-anne,

Yes there is a problem with the front gas locker struts, speak to the retailer that you purchased it from, they will be aware of it as lunar have made modifications.
