Hi,

Am thinking of staying in luxembourg in August for 2 nights. Camping Birkelt in Larochette was an abvious choice as we have 2 children aged 10 and 6. However, after going on trip advisor it has a bad writeup, 2 posts saying dirty pool to mention one gripe.

Anyone any advice?

Thanks

Jill

Hello Jill

We camped in Luxembourg two years ago and stayed at Auf Kengert Tel +352 837186 on the outskirts of Larochette. It was a much smaller site that the one you mentioned and the pitches were an ok size in a slightly but not opressively wooded setting. It had an outdoor swimming pool which was quite cold at that time early July. Toilets were very clean and the food in the restaurant was excellent, we had a couple of great meals there! It's always good not to cook.

Yours Iona

Hi Jill

We stayed at Camping Birkelt on Wednesday and Thursday last week, on our way home form a tour. We were a little disappointed because we like quiet sites, out of season, with older caravanners - mainly couples. Camping Birkelt was well into the summer peak, with mainly families, lots of noise, entertainment etc. and was used by organisations with cabins and pre erected tents.

That said, it was a nice site if you like that kind of thing, and would be great for your children. The pool was certainly not dirty - it was a very nice covered pool under a dome that opened up in hot weather. Again, it was very busy and full of children having fun, and was roped off into three sections, so no good if you wanted to swim up and down.

I would say, in your circumstances, give it a try. The children will love it, and if you are only staying two nights the "holiday camp" atmosphere will be no problem. It all depends on what you like and what you are used to. It was not what we are used to but made a change for two nights.

Thank you to everyone for your replies.

They were really helpful and I am now going to go to luxembourg rather than miss it out.

Cheers

Jill
