Could anyone advise me if it is possible to buy low wattage ovens for the caravan. If so where I might get one, and could anyone reccomend a particular make. I am only looking for a fairly small one.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Why not buy a normal cheap one and use it on one of the lower power settings?

Perhaps a piece of red tape over the higher settings might be necessary to remind users of the need to use the lower power settings.

Hi John,

Hope you are well. I did not realise that these were the same as sold at Morrisons. We have the Burgendy S6 and I think its the same microwave as yours but we have to date never had to switch off other 240v appliances when using it? there again we go to sites out of season and when its not as busy e.g bank holidays, By the way the Whale on board pump in the Burgendy was faulty and not the way setting up and was replaced no hassel under warrenty.

Take Care

Rob

Hi Rob

My comment to switch all other appliances off was in response to the quest for a lower wattage microwave

We switch off as matter of course as many French/continental sites are 6 or 10 amps

I tripped the site locked box off in the Vendee recently and the site owner had to replace the 10 amp cartridge fuse !!!

He was most gracious about coming to the box first thing in the morning saying it was a small problem compared to the weather

Glad that you got the pump sorted

Hi John,

We were in Calvados and Manch 2-3 weeks ago and the weather was the worst in 30 years, only across for 15 days and 10 days with rain! Going back the end of this month for another couple of weeks and hope the weather is better, a indian summer would not go amiss.

I really can not see the point in low wattage microwaves, low weight perhaps.

Either use them on lower settings or turn the other heat appliances off.

We used one for a while in the early days but find jacket spuds better from the oven and soup just as quick in a pan and that is all we were using it for.

David,

Are you selling your Daewoo one?

We are after a microwave for our van which didn't come with one fitted (as we had an oven)& would really prefer a caravan one with lower wattage if poss & as cheap as poss if my Hubby has anything to do with it!

HI Garry

The point of low wattage microwaves has nothing to do with saving weight but more to do with saving blushes when you have tripped out the site electrics.

As to using on low power as I understand it it just means small bursts on full power (open to correction) and as the current input is about double the microwave output its easy to trip out some site electrics .

We had a 450W microwave for over 10 years but it still tripped out the site box in Prague which was beyond my language vocabulary !!

Regards and best wishes

I meant I could see more point in a low weight microwave than in a low power one, I did not mean to infer that there was a link between the two, although there could be as less power would enable lighter components.

re. your point about low power settings using short bursts of high power - you are absolutely right, I stand corrected.

However it is easy to turn off the other appliances to minimise risk of tripping while using the microwave.

We used to do our babies bottles with boiling water from the kettle.

Personally we are happy without taking one.

by the time postage is added its probably easier for you to get a new one with guarantee from Asda, its a bog standard Daewoo,it only works on 240 volt,I think 12volt ones are megabucks.

on our last trip we returned back to site to enter the caravan to a terible smell of burning after taken all seating, bedding clothing to bits we still had trouble finding where the smell was actully coming from untill my husband opened the microwave door (microwave has only been used once for 20 sec in March to heat baby food) and the smell really hit him after taken the fuse and plug out we phoned our dealer for his reply to be yes we have has a few phone calls with regards to this, phone back on Monday and speak to aftersales when we arrived home we just took van to dealer and the owner himself said "they are only cheep microwave if you go to commet or currys you could buy one for
