Hi rac

These are the edited comments I made about Milarochy Bay on the Tenting and Touring Website. We went a few years back on our first family camping holidays. (A frame tent in those days!) Quite remote, very attractive location right on the shore of the Loch, superb views of Loch and mountains. Good boat launching facilities. The Eastern shore is the quieter side and long distance footpath runs near site. Not much for children but good for boating and watersports. Balloch is the nearest town if I remember rightly with a good Co-op supermarket for supplies. Village nearby with a couple of shops.

It rather depends on the ages/interest of your group?! When we went our 5 kids ranged in age from 4-12 years old. They enjoyed the Loch and its beaches. We, also, had a few car trips out. Inerary Jail where you sit-in on a "trial" and lock Dad in an outside exercise pen was very popular! Glasgow is within driving or train, from Balloch, distance too. The CCC "Your Big Sites Book" Milarrochy Bay page gives a number of trips from the site.

A couple of years ago we stayed at Loch Lomond Woods which is actually in Balloch itself (our car broke down big time and took a week to fix when we were travelling further north) Balloch has lovely loch-side walks and beaches. There's a newish Shopping and entertainment centre on the Lochside in Balloch.

A few other Scots campsites we've enjoyed when the kids still wanted to come with us are:

Port Ban Holiday Park on the Kintyre Peninsula. It's very remote but right on its own beach. It's self contained with cafe, shop, library canoes to hire, sports field and some children's activities without being over-commercialised.

Grannie's Heilan Hame, Dornoch. MOre commercialised with indoor pool, shop, cafe, amusement centre but with the option of pitching as far or near to these as you wish, including right on the beach.

Brighouse Bay, Dumfries and Galloway. A large site with a pool and wide range of activities but near to a the sea.

All of the above are in CCC "Your Big Sites Book"

The website ukcampsite.co.uk has a good range of sites and includes personal reviews by folke who've visited them.

Hope this is some help and you find a good site for your needs.

Kind Regards

Tim
