hi Anthony im in the process of exchanging my mondeo. i have a 04 2.0 TDCi 130bhp wich im sure yours will be with being the titanium X mines has 123000 miles on it and im still getting 43 mpg wile towing .

do you have it seviced regularly?

i find if i change the diesel filter at shorter intervals than the recomended service intervals this helps alot not an expensive job and quite simple to do as its located on the drivers side suspension top under the bonnet .

Anthony, the sort of journeys you do and how you drive the car will also be a factor here! I've got a 2.0TDCi Ghia X Estate and I get anywhere between 35 and 50 mpg solo depending on my mood, traffic conditions and the roads I am using.

Funnily enough I have found 5th gear to be more economical than 6th most of the time - unless I am cruising on a dual carrageway.

The filter will make a small difference but probably not 10 mpg - worth trying though. Other than that, keep her serviced and try and drive smoothly!

Oh and try not to reset your trip computer too often - it's an averaged figure so if you reset it and have a bad run, well...

Mondeo 2.2st Tdci 05 hatch. 48mpg solo 30 towing 1350kg

I also get 48 solo from my 54 plate mondeo estate with 95k on the clock.

Reset the mpg trip everytime I fill up to give a more accurate reading of the cars recent performance.

Hi,

I am one of the guys whose Mondeo STTDCI you have spoke about, 36mpg towing, 48 mpg solo on average.

A couple of things before mass panic sets in :-

1) Your caravan is 200 kgs heavier than mine, but at 1500kgs is very very close to the kerbweight of the car, in some cases, it could be more than,as Ford are not very clear as to what car weighs what.

2) Check your handbrake is not binding on the back wheels, this is a well known Mondeo problem. They are also very sensitive to tyre pressures as well.

3) How many miles has your car done? It could need the EGR valve cleaning. Mine has done 26k and the valve was filthy. Since I cleaned it, I uncovered another 3 mpg.

If you wish to get more info that can help, this site should suffice.

Good luck

I have the ST hatch and tow a Coachman 560/6 with a max weight of 1500kg. The car weighs in at 1640kg.

I can get about 32mpg while towing but I do tend to get a move on simply because of the power of the engine.

Average solo is around 42mpg.

My previous Mondy which was the 130 estate averaged about the same.

William - how do you clean out the EGR valve as my motor has done 33000 miles although it is serviced regularly.

I have a Jag X type which has the same 2.2tdci engine & gearbox as the Mondeo st tdci. The best i've ever seen solo is 50mpg driving like a vicar at 65mph. A more mormal motorway run at higher speeds give me about 44mpg & town use about 36mpg.

People on the Jag forum who cleaned their egr valves also cleaned the inlet manifolds as these get caked in gung as well. After, the engines run better, produce less smoke & get better mpg.

I'm not pulling mine to bits yet though as i've only had it a month! (althought its 2 yrs old & done 26k).

Hi Jonathon,

I can explain it, but it will take up a lot of space. If you go to this site www.stdrivers.co.uk, it explains with pictures, to clean the EGR valve takes about 20 mins, to do the manifold takes 1.5 hours,at your miles, I would just go for the egr clean and leave it at that for now.

Best Regards.
