mondeo st diesel 06 plate 'total newbie' NO 'van!!

ok, im a total newbie. not even got a 'van yet! currently drive an 06 plate diesel mondeo st (which i love) anyone know what this model is like to tow with. im looking to buy a 3/4 berth 'van. will be just me, the mrs & the dog! just signed up to this site & have already spent far to long just looking through it all! its brilliant

I might be wrong I am occassionally) but I dont think you can tow at all with a Mondeo ST because you can not get a tow bar for it as it is not approved to tow.

Hi Barry

You can tow with an ST tdci, we have Titanium X with the ST pack and it tows well. There are many contributors here who tow with the 2.0 tdci and most comments are favourable.

You can't tow with a petrol ST tho'

Enjoy looking for the new van, you'll enjoy it more afterwards. Keep plenty back for all the other bits you'll need, or want, to buy

I have 2 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI at present but I recall in one of the caravan mags it specifically saying the ST was a no go ,this was only in the last few months so may be Nigel can check it out.

You can tow with the ST TDCi model. It makes a great towcar,powerful,stable and good sports suspension. I had one for a couple of years and arond France twice.
The average Kerbweight is about 1600kgs and more than capable to pull alot of vans - we towed a Coachman Festival 560/6.

I have an 04 plate Mondeo 2.0 tdci 130bhp which is a brilliant towcar. I have recently returned from a touring holiday in France and the car went very well and got reasonable mpg while towing (38mpg) and had plenty of power in reserve even on motorway inclines. I know this is not the ST but I imagine it may be the same engine so this will hopefully be useful to you.

many thanks to everyone who replied. ive found a tow bar for my car. so with luck i WILL be able to keep the mondeo (which is a great car) now it's down to serious 'van shopping. thanks again

would just like to say it is only the 3.0ltr petrol ST that you cant tow with as i have owned one the problem is that the clutch is already under so much pressure with the car giving out 224 bhp the TDCi ST has no problems at all
