Please le me know if you can recommend an MOT station near to Sutton Coldfield. We have a Peugot Boxer Camper Van weinging 3.5 tonnes that needs an MOT shortly.

Many thanks.

Hello John,

It should not be necessary for anyone to recommend an MOT as at least in theory they must all offer the same level of service which is to test for MOT's

If you are looking for one that is lenient and likely to give you an MOT when other might fail you, then I'm sorry but that is matter for VOSA who regulate MOT testing.

I don'y know which "theory tree" you've been sleeping under John L, but MOT stations vary quite a lot despite all working to the same "minimum" requirement standard.

For example. I used our local Peugeot franchise garage to MOT a Renault 25. They failed it on flaking plastic coating on the front anti rool bar, in the middle of the bar and no where near any bushes.

I have to agree with steve in leo, there is a vast diference in what is "standard" as far as MOT testing results are.

Having been caught out by being told certain work needed doing, only to find that it did not, but was a money making ploy, I now only use the local council testing station as they do not do repairs.

They only test, the test is very thorough and if the vehicle fails there is a very good resson.

John - try Apollo in Tamworth 018 2731 0509 - they aren't especially lenient but they don't tout for work - if anything needs doing, they'll quote but won't put you under pressure - they can handle big vans as well.

The posts that have followed my own have vindicated my point. The test stations that are suggesting work is necessary when other stations dismiss it, shows that VOSA need to be informed.

I Concur with the use of an LA test station, They have no axe to grind other than to make sure the test is fair. I have done something similar when an old Midland Red bus garage offered MOT's but no repair facilities. I have also on one occasions used a garage but made it clear they would not be in the running to do any repairs.

Thanks, everyone, especially RogerL for the recommendation. Tamworth is nice and close for me.

Kind regards,

John.
