Motor mover help please!

Hi I have just bought a Coulchester and it has a truma mover fitted to it, never had a mover before!!
Anyway I have now connected my 85 amp battery to it and it seems to work fine :) my only concern is when i turn the handle on the wheels to lock it into place it's extreamly tight, is there a way of adjusting this? I think it has a yellow marker arrow that points to the front and then I turn the handle till the marker faces the wheel?
Also is the 85 amp battery enough? our local dealer has recomended nothing less than 100 amps?
I will only purely use the battery for the mover, nothing else.
Somebody suggested using a normal car battery, is this an option?

Its is meant to be tight fitting to provide the necessary contact with the tyre and prevent slipping.
An 85ah battery is OK if you always use EHU on site and keep it fully charged when at home.

I have a Truma mover. When the rollers are disengaged there is meant to be a 20mm gap between them and the caravan tyres. If the gap is not as above ie. too wide or small you will need to adjust it. I agree it is very tight, but it needs to be, otherwise you get slipping. I used a 110 amp leisure battery, but would think a car battery would suffice?

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it the only difference between an 85 amp battery and a 110 amp battery is that if I was drawing off 1 amp it would last me for 110 hours (4.5 days) whereas the 85amp would only last for 85 hours, (3.5 days), assuming the battery was 100% fully charged. It does not, I believe, provide more power, just longer availability of the power. The Truma mover uses an average of 30 amps (per hour) therefore, in theory, an 85 amp battery should provide power for over two hours. My guestimate is that most people only use their mover for no more than 10 minutes at any one time.
It should also be considered that the larger battery is somewhat heavier and will not, in several cases, fit into the battery box in the caravan. Unless you are going to a site without EHU for a few days then, in my humble opinion, 85amp is the optimum size. I have used an 85 amp battery for some years with a Truma mover and without any problem.

It would be interesting to know whether liska has a crossover bar fitted. If he has, then it's like activating both sides at once. When I got my recent van it needed to be activated from both sides and it was reasonably heavy to swing the rollers. Now I've fitted a crossoverbar, it takes much more 'muscle' to activate.

I activate both sides, the near side is fine however the off
side turns half way and then takes enormous effort to lock it right over, Can
this be adjusted?

Don’t think I have a cross over bar?

there should be 20mm between the rollers & the tyre I found one of those plastic joint block was 20 mm square just right to check the gap. you can adjust the gap by loosening the motor fixings to the caravan chassis & moving the motor

The motor is fixed to the off side, the same side as the problem, would this make any difference?
I must admit I’m not very good with spanners and should maybe just get someone out to do it for me?
Could it all just drop to bits on me or is it pretty idiot proof? !!

There's a motor on each side. The two motors are attached to an oblong section bar which goes from one side of the van to the other and both ends are attached to the caravan chassis with U bolts. It's the U bolt nuts (4) which need to be undone then the bar with the motor attached needs to be moved so that the roller is 20mm from the tyre (check that the tyre is at the correct pressure)

Erm? I've just checked the gap and it's 10mm, I've also looked at the tyres and their 14" my previous vans have all been fitted with 13" tyres, does anybody know the correct tyre size for the Colchester? Could the tyres be wrong?

The gap should be 20mm from the tyre. Lots of vans run on 14" tyres and it's a bit unlikely that yours are wrong. After all to change the tyre size, you need to get 14" rims which would need to have the mounting holes matching the caravan hubs. More likely, if you have recently changed tyres, perhaps it's because you have got tyres of a different profile.
