Yes you should, at least that's what the dealer told us, as it "can" distort the tyres. However, if we've had to use levelling ramps on a steepish slope we sometimes leave it on as an additional hand brake.

Cheers

Another urban or caravanning myth

It's never a good idea to cause long term distortion to a tyre, but I seriously doubt leaving a motor mover engaged is going to cause any major problem. Tyres are designed to flex and can accommodate a wide range of deflections in the course of their normal work.

Consider - the weight of a caravan flattens the tyre where it is in contact with the ground, The part that is contact with the ground is relatively stress free, the greatest stress is where the profile of tyre changes from a circle to a flat, so there will be two on each wheel- that is long term deflection and it does not seem to be abnormally detrimental to the tyre.

You may park a car or a caravan on a pebble, Depending on the shape and size of the pebble the deflection of the tyre around it will be more severe than the tyres profile change on a flat surface and the point loading could be far worse.

The impact of a motor movers driver rollers will be somewhere between the two, so if a tyre is not damaged by a pebble or stone then it is highly unlikely the tyres integrity will be damaged by a motor mover.

In any case if the tyre did retain a memory of the defection, unless the tyres arereally old (and should have been changed by now) after a 10 or so meters of towing it will have forgotten the impression.

As most holiday stays are for relatively short stays, I see no reason to be concerned about leaving a mover engaged. It is added security if you are pitched on a slope, and its one more thing for thieves to deal with if they have designs on taking your caravan.

There may be other reasons to disengage a mover when in storage.
