My 5 Star 4x4

At the risk of starting off the 4x4 debate once again, and believe me that is not my aim, I have just been reminded how silly the comments made recently are.

If my memory serves comments like " terribly uncomfortable, unsafe due to high centre of gravity, wont go round bends, sparse and plastic, unrefined" and I am sure many more were made by certain individuals. Also the other piece of advise given which sticks in my mind was " why lumber yourself with a 4x4 when you only tow your van for 3 weeks per year".

Well my car (Amazon) second one I have had was in for its first service today so I had to borrow my Sales Managers car, a quite respectable Jaguar family saloon. I cannot tell you how horrible it felt to drive compared with my 4 X4 and believe me I would not go back to a saloon car ever again by choice. The other comment recently concerned the cost of running 4x4's, service costs in particular were mentioned, well I have got to say in the 6 years and 200,000 miles I had my first one the only non service parts fitted to it was 1 set of front discs, it only ever had one replacement set of tyres.

Ok so I only get 25 mpg. Small price to pay IMHO.

It's ok Graham, you have what is, in your opinion a great car and can recommend it unreservedly. There should be no reason for anyone to start the debate again because of this. Is there?

Answers in the Towcar forum please!

Graham,

you lucky man I`ve admired the Amazon for years but out of my price bracket unfortunately, I`ve had to make do with a Sorento but it does the job.

Make do with a Sorento? Perhaps I heard it wrong, but thought you wrote "Make do with a Sorento".

"Make do" must mean something else to you Tony, like "It's ok; I'll make do with oxygen to breath". Or, "It's ok; I'll make do with winning the gold at the Olympics".

*** round to your Kia dealer and say to them, "Thanks for this award winning 4x4; I'll make do with it!" Then see the tears in their eyes as they try not to cry.

"Make do", indeed......it's ok all you Sorento owners out there, he didn't mean it!
