Hi

Myself and my wife have just returned to caravanning after having twenty years of a break. Thinks have changed, thankfully for the better. Just had out first 4 day break in our new Spite Alpine 4 being towed by Audi 4 quatro 2l petrol tiptronic. Was slightly dubious about how the Audi would perform as I read everywhere that we must have a manual diesel for torque and fuel consumption etc. Well I just covered 480 miles and returned 22 mpg, hardly knew the caravan was there, set the cruise control to 50 mph and the car done the rest all at low revs no matter what the incline was. Gearbox was excellent seemed to get the right gear all the time unlike some auto box's I have read of when towing. Also read of people having cooling problems with autos but the gauge never moved a millimeter from normal all the time I was towing.

Being the pessimist that I am though just wondering if I am missing something here with this particular set-up or is there anything I should be looking out for?

regards

John

John,

The thing about cooling on auto's is actually the transmission fluid. In the old days it could get so hot it would cook the seals in the gearbox. Your temp guage is measuring the water temp. Dont worry though things have come a long way.

Enjoy
