Hi all

My daughter will be going off to scotland.

I know people who go take an AVON product for the midges. But I can't remember what's it's called

Can anyone let me know so I can tell my daughter what to get?

thanks

Avon Skin-so-Soft
Alternatively, anything with lemon works for me too - lemon soap, citronella spray (for the dogs)........

It's Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Bodyspray.
I've mentioned before on here, that anyone who gets bitten by midges, knats and horseflies etc. and who doesn't have anything to hand, a dab of toothpaste on the bite really works (they use it in the Far East for bites) and it's something you're bound to already have in the caravan. It may sound strange, but it really does work.

Hi Smiley If she gets bitten the Eureka bite Soother is brilliant at stopping the itching. http://www.bitefree.co.uk/shop-online-insect-repellent/
Just ordered some for the OH, she got eaten alive last week in Somerset has over 25 bites all over her, got so bad she had to go to doctors today and was told " just take antihestimines " they didnt even recommend a cream
Dont think they were midges but the little buggers were like small flies.

Gagakev, I really sympathise with your OH. Tell her to try a dab of toothpaste on the bites (I know with over 25 she'll look pretty spotty), even just putting some on when she goes to bed, will help. Once it gets going, it takes all that horrible, itchy pain away.

I've been badlly bitten on the legs by the river at our home. I think they are the dreaded Blandford Fly which is spreading from Dorset. Chickenpox looks tame compared to the scars these bu77ers have left. I'm scarred for life!

You don't have to go all the way to Scotland to be bitten by the little pests.
Sitting outside my local which is a canalside pub last Thursday evening I was bitten several times by midges or something similar.
I wonder if they were sozzled when they flew away?

Just had a quick google and yes think they are what you describe DustyDog, the Blanford fly, small brook/watercourse directly behind our pitch, before taking the awning down on the Friday afternoon the roof was covered in them, empty awning send daughter to shop purchase tin of spray fly killer, close caravan door and blast away and then ran like heck, 10 minutes later all clear.

So does any one know if the Avon skin so soft product will prevent these criters attacking or is it early days and we will have to do a trial the next time we are away?
Didnt LB suffer with these as well? Anyone know where he is by the way?

The avon product is Avon skin so soft woodland fresh. It does work well. If you go to the local chemist in scotland you can get deet oil which is the local product but not so fragrent.I've also heard of people using marmite but that sounds a bit wacky to me.

When we went to scotlands western highlands in 2004 I was bitten well over a hundred times and even today carry the scars. When I went to see the local independant pharasist in Fort William, he told me I was a borderline hospital case with so many bites. He sold me a good sized bottle of deet oil and advised on application. I had to liberally apply it and shower every night before bed time to keep the sheets clean. It realy is an experience to remember if you are a smogersboard to the pesky pests.

My sister lives in Ayrshire and she say's that everyone stays indoors after 7pm in the summer up there.

No wonder the pub gardens are empty.

Perhaps eaten alive by 'flies'??

I think he and her Ladyship are posing for their next pics in PCv.

My legs look like you could join the dots and get a picture. Years on I still have scars on my arms.
