Hi
In the not too distant past we were changing our cars every 2/3 years and towed with them with less than 100 miles on the clock if necessary. Modern engines are already run in and don't need anything more than just a general sense not to really push it really hard from new. I can remember my father getting a new Morris Marina and then later a couple of Austin Montego's which we had to spend weekends driving around to put miles on before the summer caravan holiday!! Times have changed, all my towcars have been Skoda Octavia diesels and never had any issues.

Yes an Xc70?diesel and Forester petrol. Made sure I had around 1000 solo miles of varied driving then okay for towing. But kept engines revving freely in case auto boxes wanted to keep to high a gear by using auto manual if required. Check owners manual for any guidance.

We bought a Brand New Hyundai Sante Fe, and the handbook states do not tow a trailer until you have completed 1200 miles.

There is no universal yes or no answer. It depends on what the vehicle manufacture states in there user instructions, as that may affect warranty status.

But its probably better not to immediately stress a new engine to its limits by towing until a few hundred miles have been completed, but always be guided by the manufactures instructions.

I would check the handbook. Mine says 600 miles although on one car I towed with a bit less on the clock and nothing went wrong. In theory if you tow earlier than the handbook says you might invalidate your warranty.
