New Caravan Handover

Forums these days seem to be full of people querying the lack of caravan manufacturers quality control and the poor pdi undertaken by dealers and the resulting problems, major and minor.

Two friends of mine bought similar caravans at a dealership over 100 miles from where they lived. They arranged for them to be collected on the same day and the dealer 'booked' them into a local small CL type site for 2 nights. During this period they had help in swapping all their belongings over and had access to mechanics if they discovered any problems - which they did.

I thought that this seemed a first class idea and service. Is it very common with dealers ? Has anybody else had this service offered to them ?

I understand Mendip offer this service too, not that we have used it but it was certainly offered.

Take every tribute, reverse it completely and you have the Wandahome 'handover' that I experienced.

The only handover that they were interested was the handing over of the price - once that had occurred, they would have great difficulty in caring any less than they did.

A year later they had the cheek to send me a flyer advertising their suddenly massive discounts. An unkind person would hope that this indicates troubled trading times and an imminent end to them and their interpretation of customer service.

But I'm not unkind, so I don't hope that.

Our handover at Wandahome went like this:

We handed over nearly twenty grand, they gave us a ten minute intro to the van, then - "we've got your money, now s*d off.

Sydney, I have a Swift group caravan the second in a row as it happens and yes I would buy another. As for getting parts quick, I think it depends on the dealer mainly not the manu, Iv had a few bits done under warranty and have been more than happy with Highbridge caravans. After taking my hard earned cash still nothing is too much trouble. So, Great Abbey caravan and great Dealer.

I collected a new Compass Rambler from Wandahome in 2004 and (at that time) the hand over was very good, we had a full guided tour of our new van that took about 20 minutes.

What really let Wandahome down was the poor servive from its HAPPE warranty back up (in my opinion).
