Hi,

I am new to caravaning. My husband and I are keen dog competitors and campers and had been toying with the idea of getting a caravan in order to allow us to do more weekend shows, as well as using it for holidays.

After mentioning this to my step-dad at the weekend it turns out he has one which he is happy for us to use. It has been stood in his field for about 5 years but was road worthy when he brought it. It is very mucky but clean and tidy in side.I just wondered what we need to do to get it back on the road, other than getting new wheels/tyres as the current ones are flat. What should we be checking and is there anything compulsory we have to do in order to use it (such as MOT equivelent?)

My Husband has never towed before so any advice on that is also greatly appreciated (I breathed a sigh of relieve when I noticed my driving licence doesn't allow me to tow!! :0)

Thanks

Rachel

Rachael,

Can you get hold of some secondhand tyres and get the van out of the field onto some hardstanding. Then you can give it a good clean inside and out. Once you have done that you can check to make sure everything works. That would be a start.

Oh! welcome to the forum.

Hi Rachel have the caravan properly serviced there may be hidden dangers in a caravan that as been stood for a while, ie gas leaks, wheel bearings, dodgy electics for starters.
