Any recommendations for a small and quiet site in the Loire would be greatly appreciated. My wife and i do not need lots of facillities, but would like a site which provides the basics well, and in picturesque surroundings.

Many thanks.

Max.

Max,

We've used some of the sites that are part of the "Sites & Paysages de France", and these in the Loire:

Chateau des Marais, Muides - about 10km North of Blois - this site is within 1km of the Chateau de Chambord (take your bicycles or rent) and within an easy drive of many other famous chateaux.

Chantepie, Saumur - use up some of the extra payload to buy a case of Saumur Champigny - a stunning red wine that will be great at Christmas

La Citadelle, Loches - easy walking distance of the town.

Our only rider is that we visit in June, outside school holidays, and even then these sites are moderatley full - upto 50% static tents of the Eurocamp type - and it's starting to get really hot.

We were at Chateau de marais at the begining of July just for one night and we were very impressed with it. We would like to return to this one the pitches were large and the facilities were great. It may get very busy in August as Eurocamp etc are there ( I think, correct me if I am wrong someone!)

Thoroughly recommend Vallee des Vignes, near Doue la Fontaine, British owned, small (about 60 pitches and some statics - mostly owner occupied), not really with views (!) but very welcoming - we are about to book our fourth stay and recommended it to friends who booked a repeat visit before leaving it on their first stay this August.

Hi Max,

A good site for location is La Mignardierre, very close to Tours so you are near centre of the Loire so its pretty even as to which way you want to visit.

Its a small site, nothing much for kids so might be suitable. They have their own website www.campingmignardierre.com I think but if its not right I can easily get it for you.
