I hope someone will be able to help me i am know home from holiday but whilst away my water messed up i am unable to get any water out of both my taps in the kitchen and both taps in the bathroom although both work when i put the shower on which i can get water from - when i put on the shower the pump kicks in and gives me cold water from all four taps and shower but no hot water anywhere - this has totally confused me i have checked for the obvious {no water, fuses and air blocks} - is there anything simple or not that i am missing before i have to call out an engineer - i have posted a previous note on this but was limited on the detail as i was on mobile broadband in the centre of the new forest!.......Any help would be very much appreciated...........Adam.

Have you had the van long ?
Has every thing worked ok before ?
Have you ever had hot water out of the hot taps ?

Hello Adam,

You do not add any more detail than in your previous question - so I shall repeat my reply

Hello Adam,

Do I detect that you have not had the caravan very long, and you may not have had all the instruction books?

I think you have to seperate problems. The first is the lack of water at bathroom and kitchen taps, and the second is no hot water.

From your description of how you can get water when the shower is turned on, but not when any of the other taps are turned on this makes me suspect that you have a water system that relies on microswitches in each of the taps to turn the pump on. All the microswitches are wired in paralell so the pump should run whwnever any tap is turned on. It is not uncommon for one microswitch to fail, but what is puzzeling, is that so many micro switches seem to have failed at the same time! This makes me think that some wiring between the switches may have becom disconnected or damaged.

The lack of hot water, in a 1998 caravan the origonal water heater would be a Carver Cascade 2GE. The heater does not act instantaneously, its more like a domestic hot water cyclinder sytem whci takes time to warm up. The GE referes to the fact it can be heated by Gas or mains electric power or a combination of both. I assume you know the heater holds 9Lt of water and it takes about 15Min before any warm water will be available. It reaches full temperature in about 25 to 30min. This applies to both the gas or electric heating, if gas and electric are used together you will get some warm water after about 10 mins.

These are points that should really have been detected at its last service.

It's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack

Does the water get warm on gas ?

I really think the best thing to do is to get a mobile engineer out to have a look,

mobile caravan engineers

Hi Adam

Not sure if the 98 model swift had the inboard water pump (mounted inside van) ? Slightly newer model has as described, an inboard Flojet Water Pump. Normally mounted behind/side of front draw set. If yours does have this type, these are pressure pumps. That means when you open a tap anwhere to pressure is released (somewhere near 1bar) the pressure switch activates and starts the pump until you close the tap and the pressure increases up to 1 bar'ish and stops.
If yours is this type you can just buy the pressure on its own.

Just another train of thought.

We had the Sterling equivalent of the Swift Challenger, a 1998 Eccles Emerald.

The pump was in the Aquaroll and the system was a pressure operated one.

Heater was Carver Cascade 2GE

The OP needs to confirm what his system is.
