Four times today we have been pestered with a “Kevin” “Michael” etc telling me in very broken English they are part of BT Blocking service and if I sign up they will block all nuisance calls
They are rude and one asked me if I understood English :woohoo:
I told him in good Anglo Saxon words to go to the Foreign Office.
There should be some Law that stops these nuisance callers. I can deal with it but people like my mum with Alzheimer’s can’t!
Rant over. B)

Dusty, we used to get a lot of spam call I signed onto this website and the calls have decreased by a huge amount. Maybe not so good for your mum though.

We've been signed up to it for years. Unfortunately there are companies that ignore the law and still ring you. Mainly by companies that deliberately ignore the law and either hide or disguise their identity. They might withhold the number they are calling from or display a fake number. They sometimes use generic sounding names that cannot be used to accurately identify an organisation . You can however report them to TPS to see if they can pursue them.

It is common place these days. Many of these calls ID show international. if you never get international calls, block them on the handset. Others "spoof" calls through legit numbers, block those as well.(As they happen) Or buy a call blocking device that will only allow certain numbers to ring. https://www.truecall.co.uk/category-s/116.htm In her case I would suggest you use the Lock down level: Lock Down

If you only want to speak to friends and family members select the Lock Down Profile. Callers on your Star list will ring through, but all other callers will be asked to leave a message (without ringing your phone). If a friend calls from a line that doesn’t pass on Caller-ID they can enter the Callers Code to get through. You can change your Profile using the Handset Menu or by logging in to your Internet Control Panel.

We brought a telephone that interrogates callers and demands that they announce themselves very few do so our nuisance caller count has fallen from 10 to 15 per day to zero.

Sounds useful. Do you have a link please as my 96 year old father has a problem with such calls. He will even put the phone down on me unless I get my intro in very quickly.

We let the phone ring till it reaches the answer machine, if they want to talk to we they can leave a message. With my mobile I look see who it is if a call I don't reconise I hit the red button them put it in the block numbers section, don't get any more from them.

I wish, but its always my mobile they ring. Last one about 5 minutes ago. Considering the number of accidents they think i have had, i must have gotten through my nine lives and then some.

:p :silly:  ;) :p
Sorry ; couldn't resist !!!!!!

But yes I do agree they are a pain as I got one the other week saying they had just heard about my accident that I had , it was over 6 years ago when someone rear ended us !!

Thank you for your very focused comments, taken alongside my fathers rejection of some of my calls, which are far from being a nuisance, I fear I must submit to some intensive counselling :)

I don't know if this will be of any help to anyone, but when we moved house just a year ago, the property we moved into had to be allocated a brand new telephone number as the existing one there had been disconnected for some time.

It was an instant solution to all the nuisance calls we used to receive at our old address......in the last year we have not received a single call of that nature, whilst at the old address it was a real pain!.

I don't know how easy or difficult it is to get a brand new telephone number, but if it can be done then its a sporting chance that this will put a stop to them ( for how long I do not know)
As always.

Will only stop them long enough for your number to be on the next list sold.

Its been 14 months now and not a single call so far, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Bit extreme though to spend £20k moving house to stop a few calls.
