Hello, wondered if anyone could help.

I've just purchased our very first caravan, and had it out last weekend for a test run.

It came with an Obelink Hartland 390, which is great condition apart from 1 of the support tubes which has a leak on the valve, and the 3 storm tubes for the middle of the awning roof are missing. Do they usually come as standard or are these usually purchased as extras?

I've asked Obelink if they can be purchased, but they said the product has now been discontinued.

It's the front central roof support that has the leak, which is a smaller size to the 2 front outer roof ones.

Anyone any ideas on where else to purchase.

I've even wondered if the tube could be filled with some kind of expanding form to just be permanently inflated?

Thank you

Hello SD,

With the absence of replies so far it suggests to me the make of awning you have is not common in the UK. If that is the case it probably also means there will be few if any spares available. I know I have never heard of them previously.

As for the idea of filling the front beam with foam. You would need to check you can actually fit the filled beam into the awning, and also that you can stow the filled beam for travelling.

You would also need to choose your type of foam carefully. If the foam sets rigid there's a high chance the set foam will be brittle and not take kindly to being bent whilst being man handled. The foam may crack and in use the movement of the awning by the wind might cause the foam to crumble loosing the beams strength.

You need to find a mixable foam that sets firm but also retains some elasticity.

As for missing roof bars, consider using rigid white PVC domestic waste water pipes and push fit elbows. They might just have enough bending resilience for the awning, without adding too much weight.

Hi Prof,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Obelink (https://www.obelink.nl) I think, is a Dutch company, but I believe they operate across the whole of Europe.

I appreciate your advice on the use of foam, and never really considered the brittleness of it once in place. However, the use of PVC domestic pipe is brilliant. Not only for the centre ones, but to replace the one that has a leak. It's pretty lightweight, and velcro could be added to either end of the pipe to connect into the awning itself. Great advice, thank you!
